i posted on a facebook group recently about looking for a h&r protector barrel. a guy told me that mossberg 500 barrels fit the h&r without mods. is this true? thanks

I haven't heard this one, but I suppose it could be true. Personally, I would have to have a barrel from each on hand and then compare them dimensionally. I would do this very carefully before I tried to actually fire anything in it! Maybe you could contact Mossberg and/or HR?

H&R pardners supposedly take Remington 870 barrels either with or without slight mods (depends on age) as the H&R's are Chinese clones of the 870.

Mossy 500 barrels will fit the Maverick 88's however.

Mossberg does make some barrels for the 870, perhaps that is what he was thinking of. None of the 500 series barrels will fit.

Putting 870 barrels on the Pardner Pump doesn't require modifications, but you will need an adapter sleeve.

The 500 barrels have a screw that attaches the barrel to the mag tube. The 870 and Pardner Pump barrels use a cap that goes around the mag tube. So the answer is no.

If you push real hard, the Browning Auto-5 barrels fit on Remington 870s too. ;)

No, seriously. Mossberg makes barrels for Rem 870s at a better price point than factory Remington barrels.
Dunno about H&R Pardner Pump, heard they are pretty close to 870s.
