Well at a pawn shop I stopped by today on the way back had a Mossberg 590A1 military model 12 gauge, with bayonet lug.

Bead sight, 20 inch barrel, and speed-feed stock.

Plus someone put a cheezie perforated metal handguard on top (can be taken off.)

Just a bit of andonizing on the aluminum has been worn off in a few places on the receiver.

Should clean up very well.

They want $250. Decent deal?

Thanks,

Bud's sells em for over $500 NIB. I'd jump on a used one for $250, even if it appeared heavily used.

Idk what planet you people visit pawn shops on, but I'd love to catch a ride in someone's spaceship sometime. The only guns I EVER see in pawn shops are beat up old Taurus revolvers and Hi Point pistols.

Not bad price. Personally I would rather hold out for used Police Wingmaster. These sell for not much more if found very good mechanical condition. Bayonet lug doesn't add any value to a Mossberg shotgun.

Well a good friend stoled it right out of my hands. Yep he bought it for $225, tax included from the shop.

I told him tomorrow I'd clean it up for him and we will test fire it soon

He works as a Armored Car guard and I told him he needed his own personal shotgun to use when collecting money on the job. So he took my advice.

Now to get him to get a vang comp, tac-star 4 shot side saddle, and cerakote coated once we have it the way he is feels comfortable with.

That's a $200 dollar investment on improvements I think will go along way.

And then shoot the snot out of it.

New 590A1 shotguns are overpriced. After all what do they offer civilian what M500 doesn't except pointless extra weight? The $225 was good price. Addition of side saddle is waste of money and adds nothing but bulk to a shotgun especially if the gun already has long magazine tube (when side saddle is pointless).

Side saddle is cause if you do have to use it as a guard gun you have all the extra ammo you need PLUS you can keep the slug ammo separated from the buckshot (buck in the speed feed stock and slugs on the side saddle.)

It makes it a grab-and-go gun. 8 in the mag and 8 on the gun.

The only shotgun I seen with side saddle was Ithaca 37 pre LAPD (honey dipper for end, fixed rear blade block sight) with short mag tube. For that gun extra ammo on side of receiver made perfect sense. In that case loads should be reduced velocity (reduced recoil) as gun weight was about 6.5lb.

Well he paid $225 for it. Not bad.

I have it here to clean and test fire it for him (I have my own range, among others, to shoot on.)

Gonna be an interesting day.

I have shot this gun & its a dream to shoot with slugs & buckshot. The extra wieght dampens the recoil. It would totally been worth all the way to $400.

The magpul stocks look well suited to Mossberg's control and trigger layout if he's thinking of "upgrading" the stock

Well Leadhead, if he does decide to do that I'll see if he will sell that speed-feed stock to me. I have a 500 Mariner with a tac-star side saddle and I'd love to have another 4 rounds on the stock. Won't be able to shoot it till tomorrow (it's a no-no in town to fire it.)

Gun shot perfect. Fully loaded pumping as fast as I could. Went through a mixed bag of ammo from field load to high base goose. Fired 25 or so rounds. Just flawless operation and with the bead it shot right on.

Now to really clean it and do some touch up reblueing and start looking for a 4 shot tac-star side saddle.

And I have one sore shoulder!

A1 or not, I would have said "You take plastic? Can I have a 4473?" It is ironic that your friend bought the shotgun you were eying, after you told him to buy a shotgun. Same thing happened to me, with a truck.

He may hate the speedfeed stock if he's a southpaw, or even trains wekhanded...

I have a Tacstar 6 round side saddle on mine, works well enough, although I have been planning on changing it to the Ares just so that its easily removable.

The Magpul stock is pure awesomness. I say this after trying several over the years, always returning to my cut down and stippled factory stock. The grip angle is the perfect blend of a PG and a traditional stock. I don't care for their optional sling loop though, it places the loop too low and it digs into my hand when shooting weakhanded.

The heat shield, if factory mossberg, wont slide around like the aftermarkets do. The odd thing is that the 590A1 have heavy barrels, and unless something has changed, Mossberg says their heat shields wont fit. They do, it just takes effort...

Thanks Zach.

Well I already had a 500 Mariner so I didn't really need another one. My friend, on the other hand, being a guard did need one.

Might see if the new Magpul stock can be had cheap.. if so, I'll see if he will give me the speed feed buttstock and I'll get him a Magpul.

Tonight I take it to pieces and clean it up real good.
