I have searched all of the threads on this model. I have a couple of questions. Does the gun feed 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells without making any changes? Does it feed buckshot and slugs without a problem?

Is it easy to clean? Any rust issues?

I'm not sure about what sized shells it shoots, but it they probably have 2.75 inch receivers and 3" receivers.

If your gun can fire 2.75" birdshot, any 2.75" buckshot or slugs will work in it.

The receiver on mossbergs are made from an Aluminum alloy which means the receiver doesn't rust. But the barrel will rust if its not cleaned and lightly oiled time to time.

Upon looking at the site, yes the standard 930 takes 2.75" shells as well as 3" shells.

I have a 930 and there are no changes to be made when going from 2.75 to 3" shells. However, when I shot 3" magnums in mine, it would eject the shell but not feed another into the chamber. It would shut on an empty chamber. It did not do this with the 2.75" shells. It also seemed to be prone to light firing pin strikes and I would have about 1 FTF every 50 to 75 rounds. I sent it to the Mossberg service center and received it back after 8 weeks and several emails/phone calls. I haven't tried 3" magnum shells yet and don't particularly care since I don't normally use them. A friend got the wrong shells and couldn't use them in his gun so we swapped so he could hunt that day. However, the FTF problem showed up again with weak firing pin strikes. Other than that, I like the gun. It fits well and looks fairly good too. I went to the effort of fitting the stock to myself so will keep it and eventually figure out the weak firing pin hits.
It is fairly easy to clean. The barrel comes off easily so you can get at the chamber. The gas port system is also easy to get at and clean.

That sucks. I am looking to get a 930 Home Security but I hear they are coming out with a more tactical version of it soon (SPX??). Haven't seen any locally yet though.

Yes it does. Especially since they are hard to find so by the time you find one you are really ready to buy it. It seems there are not enough out there to find out if you aren't alone or if you just got the one lemon.
Meanwhile, I just turn to my 3rd hand 870 wingmaster. It never fails.

How much more tacticool do you need to get?

Unless, you need a laser, PGO pistol grip, forend vert grip, sidesaddle, light, 1-point tactical sling and an aimpoint? Your going to be able to do the same thing if not better with a stock shotgun. Besides maybe a flashlight, and a sidesaddle everything else is just another part to break.

Mossberg had one of the 930 SPX models at the NRA show in MO, it had a short barrel, a mag extension, picatinny rail and ghost ring sights. It looked a lot like an FN SLP.

I have a 28" 930 with walnut furniture, I have almost 7,000 rounds through mine without a failure of any kind. I clean mine about every 1,000 rounds now and it has been a great gun.

"Mossberg had one of the 930 SPX models at the NRA show in MO..."

Anyone know where some pictures of this are???

I called Mossberg and they said they have no plans to make a 930 in a "tactical" model. They said the 18" home defense was it.

I saw the 930 SPX at the NRA show in MO, the people at the booth said it would be shipping at the beginning of this summer.

Mossberg service (1-800 number) is handled by Maverick Arms in Eagle Pass, TX, the 930's are being built in North Haven, CT, maybe the people you spoke with in Texas don't know about it yet???

Thanks for the info Smitty. I called the 1-800 number in the morning and got told no plans to make one; I wanted to confirm an email I got from them. I called the non toll free number a couple of hours later and got the same answer.

I sent an email and they answered it yesterday and they said it should be at the distributors or dealer. Many different answers.

I will send another email and await a response.

Thanks for following up on this. If it is indeed coming out soon then maybe I'll wait ... or not. ;)

Smitty nailed it! I emailed Mossberg and asked about the 930SPX that was displayed at the NRA show, per Smitty.

This is the latest I got back from Mossberg:

"Thank you for your e-mail. Yes, it does exist and it will be out in the market in about 3-4 months....."

So, give it a while and a tactical 930 should be coming out.

Sweet!

There are two new guns on the Mossberg website:

and

I hadn't seen this one before...

It looks like they put the breacher muzzle break thingy from the 500 onto a short 930 barrel. I can't see any other differences from the pictures.
