If Remington and Savage follow as well, Dicks might as well quit selling long arms.
It would not surprise me if that is their long-term business plan. They seem to prefer to deal little league and soccer stuff, golf stuff, and workout clothes - the margins on those items are huge and there are no Fed regs to deal with; I bet the founders are spinning in their graves though

Good

Academy can pick up the slack since they've remained constitutionally friendly as far as I'm aware. It's a better store anyway.

Not sure how dsg is open anyhow. $30 basketballs and $50 t shirts.

It's just a shame, I'm only a stones throw away from the DSG Store in the mall. Yet I haven't been there in years. Normally I do my best to support local stores, yet somehow Dick's never really had anything I couldn't do without. Now I'll make it point to boycott. Hope that all the rest of the firearms makers black list Dick's. JMHO.

I believe George P is correct in speculating that this may be their long term business plan. It sure does appear that they no longer wish to be in the firearms business and based on some of their recent decisions I really believe that's the choice they've made. It's their store and they can sell what they want but I wonder how many other folks besides myself are upset at them and have decided to shop elsewhere for non-firearm type sporting goods. The founders probably are spinning in their graves, though...... I'd bet that they never envisioned this business plan.

Good riddance to them. Somebody else will benefit. I can buy my gear, fishing gear, clothing at Academy. 3C

Yes, Dicks could sell over priced stuff to soccer moms. However, they just spent millions opening a lot of their Field and Stream stores. Those will not survive if you want a hunting/fishing store but don't sell hunting stuff.

In the wake of the Pulse Nightclub shooting (Orlando, Florida), Academy announced it would no longer sell "Modern Sporting Rifles". Several months, maybe a year or so later, "Modern Sporting Rifles" quietly reappeared on Academy's displays without any fanfare. And while I didn't boycott Academy during the pendency of their unfortunate decision, they did lose the revenue from the sale of two ARs that were bought during the time.

I still don’t frequent academy because of that. They aren’t much better than Dick’s in my book. I’m surprised of all the good press they get on here lately. Their crowd is a lot more redneck than Dick’s so I’m sure financial reasons brought them back.

Extremely cool. Mossberg has a new 590A1 out with 18.5" bbl and six-shot FIXED tube (no extension). What a great platform to build a fightsman's shotgun around. I'll be picking one up soon!

Speaking of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, the gun store that became known for having turned down that shooter before his rampage is across from, and about five blocks north of, the only DSG store in my area. Between that store and the Bass Pro Shops location a thirty-minute drive in the other direction, there is little reason for me to even remember DSG's presence. Between the two, there is a third shop that keeps me, uh, busy, a pawn shop that has a nice dedicated gun shop within.

I'm glad that the manufactures and gun owners are pulling away from Dicks with their new policy and hope it sends a message.. I am also somewhat sad about it. Dicks has a large footprint in the northeast and does offer some very good discounts for spring, fall and black Friday holiday firearms sales. Plus some "house brand" models you can only get there. I hope this shakes up the big box stores selling firearms on what side of 2A they are on.

I really like that the companies are doing this and including Field and Stream as well, because they sell more guns than Dicks i am assuming.Hopefully others follow the trend.

One question though... What is to stop Dicks from just buying Mossberg stuff at a distributor and not direct? I imagine they would pay a little more, but couldn't they still obtain the guns this way?

Now do your part and send an e-mail thank you to those manufacturers who have cut off Dick's (no pun intended)

It would not surprise me if Dicks ended up shifting out of the gun/ammo business altogether. I have only been in one of them but the gun and ammo part of the store took up a fair amount of floor space. being as it is a very competitive business, it would not be shocking to me to find out that they could make more money selling something else in that space. Remember a few years ago when Walmart got rid and guns and/or ammo in some of their stores for that reason.

Dicks might already have made a long term decision to get out of the guns and ammo business and decided to jump on the gun control band wagon for what they thought would be good PR.

Couple years back a Dicks opened across the street from my old job.

Figured I hadn't been to one in years, maybe I'd check it out, drove up and a big NO GUNS sign on the main door.

I laughed and drove the 20 miles to my favorite LGS in the area instead.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dick's willingly got out of the gun business altogether. It surely isn't very profitable for them.

I've purchased several firearms from Academy in Orlando.

The gun counter guys know their stuff, and the prices are good.

You just answered your own question. ;)
