I’m considering loading for max capability.Since the OP reloads, the .30US could be loaded down to any power lever desired, negating any concerns about recoil.

Well I’m assuming it’ll be easier to get components for the 06 than the x54 because .308 bullets vs .311.So, great cartridge with some versatility but not a very different cartridge from the 7.62x54R that you have; a consideration. I have a syntheticPatriot in 375 Ruger and it is I must say, unpleasantly light. I have a friend with one in 243 Win and it is much more pleasant indeed. For a carry rifle, it’s pretty great. Look and feel of the plastic furniture is quite cheap, however, the barrel is fully floated and while the plastic looks cheap, it is rigid and does what it needs to do. Magazine is again cheesey plastic but slips in and out well and locks in solid.
The gray/silver cerakote looks good and I find the design of the action elegant in its simplicity. Safety lever is a bit gritty. Trigger is better than I would have expected on a rifle at this price but the Interweb reports that this varies.
I find it a good all-weather hunting rifle for the money. It’s not a target rifle and I wouldn’t recommend it for a long day of range shooting.
I wouldn't be afraid to buy one in .270 or smaller, I've shot one in 6.5cm and it was fine. .308 and larger have pretty rough recoil. I've also shot one in .308 and 300wm, the 300wm kicks like a mule. They're accurate enough and I would buy one if that's what my budget allowed, but for the same money, I'd probably pick one of the other options. For cheap shooting I use 223, 556 real cheap to shoot, get lots of practice on mechanics before going to my heavier center fire rifles. The patriot rifles aren't bad at all, I prefer other brands, but would buy one if the price was right
You might try 308 bullets in your x54, I had surprisingly good luck with 180 grain SSTs out of two mosins.Well I’m assuming it’ll be easier to get components for the 06 than the x54 because .308 bullets vs .311.
I had my bore slugged. .311 ans .312 are suggested. .308 would probably be too small. You might try 308 bullets in your x54, I had surprisingly good luck with 180 grain SSTs out of two mosins.
View attachment 1037005 I went to the range to shoot the mosin and found some nice clean looking 30-06 brass. Is this a sign from the universe telling me to get the rifle or is it just a coincidence?

Both of mine slugged .312, might work, might not lolI had my bore slugged. .311 ans .312 are suggested. .308 would probably be too small.
A man of culture I see. I really think 30-06 is the best OVERALL cartridge ever created because you can load 220gr soft points for dangerous game, or 110gr ballistic tips for varmint hunting. You'll never pry my 270Win out of my hands, but I do own a M1 Garand ($750 from CMP, not $2000+ from a Fudd at a gunshow) so I have both lol. Oh the nickel coated 30-06 brass was a sign, so you should snatch the Mossberg up and send it.I’m considering loading for max capability.
I was correct the first time, lol. So ignore my double post.A man of culture I see. Eh. I’ll probably stick with synthetic for a bit. This will be a hunting gun so synthetic works out better actually.I was correct the first time, lol. So ignore my double post.
I do want to say that you may be able to get a walnut stock for the Patriot from Mossberg's website. They are like $250 I think or you could go with a nice Boyd's stock for a bit less.
If its federal id collect it and leave it on a table somewhere.....have had nothing but issues with Nickled federal rifle brassWho leaves once fired nickel plated .30US brass laying on the ground? Must have been Mr. Moneybags himself. I'd like to follow that guy around.

I only found 8. Maybe he couldn’t find them.Who leaves once fired nickel plated .30US brass laying on the ground? Must have been Mr. Moneybags himself. I'd like to follow that guy around.
So as a lot of you know I shoot a supporter is Mosin-Nagant for most of my rifle shooting. Every time I bought it it was an expensive and a good way to shoot for cheap. I reload for it now and so it’s still fairly cheap. However I’m starting to think it would be prudent if I got myself a domestic caliber.
The Walmart around the corner from me has a Mossberg patriot in 30/06 For less than $400. I’m familiar with a wooden stock patriot because my ex girlfriend had one in .243. It seemed like it was accurate enough for hunting wave. Is anyone familiar with the synthetic stock 30 caliber version?
Obviously I would want to upgrade the factory scope when I got a chance.

Umm? Eight rounds of .30'06? I get a strong M1 Garand vibe.
Welp. It’s on hold. We’ll see what they have when I get there. If they have anything in 6.5 or 243 I might get that instead but I doubt it.
Yeah. 4 we’re at varying distances the last 4 we’re at 100yds.Or just checking his zero. Had to adjust a little bit.
