Most important thing you've learned on THR

Any adult should be able to handle differing opinions, offensive comments and even insults. Of course, any adult should also strive to be inoffensive and respectful as well.

Differing opinions is one thing. Some adults never got past the petty name calling stage of development. Those are the types I will not waste my time dealing with. I already have children at home. I won't bother with adults who act the same.

I have reached a stage in my life where I honestly don’t want to learn anything about some people. Not due to animosity, just absolute lack of interest. I hope they all live wonderful lives, but I just really don’t want to know.
And no, you aren’t on my list

Have no idea what happened there. Anyway, that comment makes sense. It reminded me of an older guy years ago that said he quit watching TV and only reads history books and the Bible as he found it more difficult keeping fact separate from fiction. He also said he didn't want to confuse his memories with things he'd read or seen on TV.

I was surprised at the number of gun owners that would not take a life with a firearm. That are only in it for the sport of shooting and/or collecting.

That I will always know less than I think I know.
There is more to know about guns than I could ever imagine.
To hold the highest respect for those who are willing to share their knowledge with me.

I know, right? Anytime I tell someone about when I was a crew chief on an X-Wing Fighter during the Galactic Rebellion, they always start an argument. Some people's kids, I swear.

I don't have any "higher purpose" like the gent you speak of. My motivation is really very simple; I want to avoid folks who waste my time. Some folks will just consume your time with no value to you or to them. I'm done with that.

I think like most members here that the one thing I have learned is that knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted. Now that doesn't necessarily mean you have to comment on every thread you read but some things you might take for granted as common knowledge may not be all that apparent to first time or younger gun owners.

One of my English teachers always said that when you go to write something try to take the viewpoint that the reader knows little or nothing about your subject material. Take the time and effort to explain your ideas and take it from there.

In the six years I have been on this forum.....I have noticed there has been an alarming increase in the number of things about which I know nothing.....I just thought I did. When I first got here, I still thought Browning invented the Hi-Power! This is what I have learned:

No matter how much you think you know, another member here knows more..

I haven't bothered to read through all the posts, yet, but I'll bet I'm not the first one to say that.

I think I have learned the most from Frank Ettin`s explanation`s of law and how it work in reality and not what people wish it was..

I haven't had a drink in years, but I have the feeling some of the posts on here would make more sense if I did. Including my own...either before I write them or after. Or both.
I enjoy good libations here and there, but don’t tie one on anymore. I’m too old for that $&@?.

But my early days on THR years ago? Well, my judgment was less mature.

Good Irish whiskey means no posting. I always regret it.

Civility.
Not that I have noticed. This is the most argumentative gun forum I belong to.
It is possible to remain civil while arguing (in the classic rhetorical meaning) about a disagreement. I think most of the disagreements in THR are in this category. However, the word argumentative has more pejorative connotations, and while that does apply to some disagreements here, I agree that for the most part the Moderators help minimize such instances.
