I had to vote for the Colt 1991. I have owned a few of them (older and newer models) and I can't remember one single malfunction. I have quite a few rounds through my 70 series reproduction without a problem, but it throws brass back at my forehead at times.

Colt.

Hey there:
My Colt series 70 has had over 100,000 rounds fire'd through it.
Still shoots with the best.
Shot IPSC for years with it. Sometimes a 1000 rounds a week.
Frame , slide and barrel are original.

design

Hey there.
It's not so much the name brand as it is the design. many have passed the Colts where fit and tolerance is concerned. But some things are ment to be a little sloppy. Thats why they work so well.

Colt Series 70 Replica, the one I own has been flawless. So has my Colt 1991 but you can't vote for more than one. :(

I've had two Colt Series '70s. Neither was reliable out of the box. Both took a lot of work to get them reasonably reliable. Neither stayed reliable for long. They do NOT get my vote.

Series 70 or Series 70 redux? And, by the way, what DOES get your vote, or are you not here for the poll?

I had to give it to my 1991a1 - I think Colt went back to basics on the model and it worked. Rough parked appearance, no frills, series 80 pieces, yet fitted like a custom gun and accurate and reliable as could be right from the box. It'll go down as one of Colt's finest products.

Anyone else have input on this? I am currently giving the 1911 a very serious look for carry. And Colt, not any of the copies, is the manufacture I'm thinking of going with.

i recently came across parts to a 1911 colt.45,ivory grips(pre-ban),.22 conversion barrel,4 7rd. mag,4 10 rd.mag, hand full of bullets.also m-16 parts .these itmes belonged to my wifes late uncle who took his own life.they were stored in his mothers basement,my wifes grandmother.her health took a nosedive and we went to conn.where they live(he worked for springfield armory up until he died.the .45 was never returned,no one wanted it back(because of what it was last used for).if any one is interested in obtaining the ivory grips(there is also a set for a colt revolver)please contact me and we can go from there.

Carry

Hey again:
For Concealed carry I use a Kimber Ultra carry . It is light weight and accurate. Recoil is not an isuue.

In terms of "others" I voted for my 1944 Remington 1911A1. I replaced the original barrel and have stored it away. I have shot thousands of rounds of all types of ammo with never a hiccup. I don't think you will find a more dependable SA. Accurate as he.. also I might add. I use it for my primary carry.

Unless a person has owned and used all of these types of guns for a period of time, how can you say which is the best.
Just a thought.

I voted for the Auto Ordnance because it's the only Gov't model I own. I don't make great demands on it like serious competition or defending my life with it. It's just a range/plinker which I got for a good price. It is a pretty accurate repro of the WWII GI gun. It has always run reliably and without incident using a variety of 230 grain ball ammo.

I participated in the ISHOT 1000 this weekend. Once the shooter stepped up to the line, no maintenance, lubrication, or service of any kind could be performed to the pistol until the end of 20 stages of 50 rounds each. A Colt NRM Commander was the only 1911 to run a clean match. Full results are posted here http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=359392.

Vote in the poll

S&W

After looking again, apparently you're looking at low end 1911's;
Tie: 1991a1 and SA Mil Spec (not GI).

Cheers, TF
