The first "Death Wish" movie, with Charles Bronson playing Paul Kersey, a man who becomes a raging vigilante in the wake of home invaders killing his wife, was released 32 years ago.

But the people in today's handgun permit classes do not appear to be Charles Bronson wannabes. They are simply trying to be safe, not sorry.

They wish not to die before their time.

"These people are not haters," says Fowler. "They're scared and they want protection. And they have one job: Stay alive."

We need more articles like this, many more.

I left mine on the calculus book this afternoon and it didn't do a single problem. Well on second thought perhaps it did the problems however it didn't write them down... Back to training the non-magical dog to do the problems (easier to train the dog than do it myself).

As I posted in the thread that was closed as a duplicate, my first reaction when I opened the paper, was, "Oh, no. . . ."

As I read through the article, however, I realized it was actually pretty good. Yes, there are some factual errors (e.g. the "Caltech" gaffe that others have already mentioned). And yes, the attribution of the rise in permits to fear was sensationalistic (I would have placed less emphasis on fear and more on the realistic realization that people are responsible for their own safety). But overall, the reporter didn't seem to have an axe to grind, he actually took a CCL class, he interviewed the owners of all the ranges in town that offer classes, he included a positive quote about armed citizens by an MPD sargeant, and the eleven (!) pictures of armed citizens with their weapons included a variety of men, women, blacks, and whites from a fairly wide age-span. There was also a side story on how to obtain a permit and what states recognize Tennessee permits.

All in all, I thought the article was excellent.

There are some excellent articles written by the folks in Memphis, regarding concealed carry. May I recommend the one in my sigline? :)

Rockstar you need to give it lead bullets so it can write the answers, copper jackets don't work well on paper.

haha, Calthech

It's user-recognition software doubles as a calculator / date planner.

Does it support RPN? then it would be really geeked out.

Well, I'm waiting for the letters to the editor the anti-gun types are sure to write in response to this article. It has been two days and I've not seen any yet, but I'm waiting.
