Mounting a scope

I've never had a scope mounted on any of my rifles and always used open sites. However, I have an older rifle and finally bought a buckmaster for it, and the store worker suggested the leupold base mounts and rings.
The problem is, I don't know where which one goes.

So far, I have the thickest base on the back, and the front has the thinner one (because they fit the screws), so I hope this is right.

I will upload pictures and ask if I have done it correctly real soon..
