Movie "The American"??

Ok, so I have seen the trailers and wondered what rifle they have George Clooney's character set up for the 'sniper' theme.
Just checked IMFDB.com, and come to find out it is a Mini 14 with a suppressor and folding stock.
Really??? That is the best they could do?
Who ever was their weapons advise was, they really should consider a different line of work.

It's a movie. It has nothing to do with real life. They didn't want the gun that can serve best as a real sniper rifle. They wanted something that looks cool and they figure can dub the sound in later; or the picture studio had one left over from another film; or they needed something right then and now to finish shooting for that day and they had that etc.

I saw the trailer and thought it would be great too....until the shot where it shows George opening up his gun case with a disassembled Mini! I'm not going to be able to see the movie because I can never take someone serious who has a Mini-14 "sniper rifle". What a let-down...
