I'm moving from Southeastern La. to Northwestern Mo. I'm an avid Deer hunter but I've always hunted the south. Any advice or suggestions (other than dress warmer) that may make this as much fun as I think it's going to be. Also if anyone has any good spots to check out I would appreciate the tip.

Hunting around smithville lake is pretty decent so I have heard. This would be not to far away and public ground that allows rifle, muzzle loaders, and archery. Alot of public land is shotgun/archery only. Might at least get you a place to hunt until you meet some folks for private land.

be ready for big deer! Northern missouri generally has excellent deer, rabbit, quail and in some places, dove hunting.

I have seen some giant bucks up around the Weston MO area. I used to hunt across the river in Atchison KS. There are several areas along 71 hwy that lead to nice hunting areas. If I hear of any areas that way I'll pass them along. If you are into fishing check out Rodgers sporting goods which won't be to far away. Also Cabela's and Bass pro-shops are in the Kansas City Area. There is really alot to do in and around Kansas city and Kearney is certainly not far away.

Just head east on hwy 136 and come hunting with me. All the guys with me last year got 12 pointers or bigger. I didnt cuz the one i was gunning for walked behind a large brush pile and when he came out the other side i had already shot a large doe moving with him.

usmccpl Thank you very much. It looks like we will be changing or destination from Kearney to Liberty but I will PM you at some point. I appreciate all the intel on the area.
