Moving to Southern Wisconsin - Any Info?

I'll take cold over heat too. I can always add more layers to keep warm but when it's hot out I can only remove so much before I get arrested :D

There's a wonderful rifle range in Lodi!

It goes out to 1000 yards. I can't wait to retire and move back to that area. ;)

You're moving to the wrong side of the state! And for all you 'It's so cold ' people, it was 45 degrees today in Western WI! :D (after the ice storm lifted... :uhoh: ) As for the 'one vote', [Billy Crystal voice] Don't get me started![/Billy Crystal voice]! :cuss: Seriously, While MADison and Milwaukee are bastions of socialist blissninnies, the oulying areas are very nice, and don't forget Door County just a bit north! :)
CWD isn't what I'd worry about in the woods around here... :uhoh: But that didn't stop most deer hunters from getting back out in the woods.

Lots of pretty young things in Madison.

Also, a band called "The Kissers" and a bar named "Luther's Blues."

But I was only there 4 days.

Just remember...

While there are pretty young things in and near Madison, the city is often referred to as "78 square miles surrounded by reality". As a Sauk County resident, I highly concur, and I'd have no problem bitch-slapping Paul Soglin were he in proximity to me.

Lake Mills is a nice little town, check out Tyranena brewery for some tasty suds and often times good music. Say Hi to Dr. Stork at the Lake Mills Veterinary Clinic... a good guy to know.

Beloit Rifle Club

Beloit Rifle Club is on the IL/WI border. They have a somewhat complicated membership process, but non-members can shoot there in bullseye pistol, highpower rifle, CMP, and other organized matches. It is a very newbie-friendly atmosphere at the matches: people trying to help and encourage the newcomers rather than drive them away. It's also a good way to meet some members who can sponsor you for membership application.

No guns but all the pot you can smoke

You'll probably never be able to carry a concealed in Madison, but if you like to smoke pot your in business. Some of Wisconsin's laws are confusing as hell. I believe your still allowed up to 1 ounce of marijuana for personal use within the city limits. I guess if your that stoned you shouldn't be carrying a loaded weapon anyway. :D

I'm begining to think we need to have a WI/UP THR shoot this summer. Seems there's enough of us...

And I don't know about not being able to CCW in Madtown. Way the last bill was written (and our state preemption law works), Madison would be stuck dealing with it: they could opt out of issuing, but that just means you'ld have to go to a different county to get your permit. Unless I misunderstood something (and Dick will correct me if I'm wrong)...

No CCW??? :what:

I am also entertaining a job offer in Wisconsin. Pleasant Prairie in the SE corner of the state.

The Pleasant Prairie area of WI is very gun-friendly. Your state senator--Robert Wirch--voted for the CCW bill four times. The state representative for that area--John Steinbrink--voted for it as well.

That said, they're both Democrats, and this is going to be an especially partisan legislative session. If you should hear a peep out of either one that sounds squishy, please email me at [email protected]

Hunter Rose, you're right: if our bill had passed, Madison couldn't deny CCW to anyone. Back in '94, Madison had a ban on handguns and ridiculous restrictions on transporting guns. The statewide pre-emption law put the brakes on the Madison ultra-liberals. Unfortunately, the powers that be in that city still make life miserable enough for gun stores that many have decided not to carry handguns.

Welcome to the Fourth Reich.

As for our special friend up north, I have all sorts of daydreams. Imagine grabbing him and putting him into a van, driving him to the North side of Milwaukee, pumping some crystal meth into his veins, stripping him naked, then dumping him stark naked out onto the streets with a Bowie knife in one hand and a sign around his neck that reads "I hate *********."

Ah, but one can only dream.

Note to self; Don't piss off Monkeyleg.
