Hey guys I have a 12 guage traditions muzzleloading shotgun it came with a full choke I recently got a extra full for turkeys. I believe it take the bore down to .660 or .665 I'd have to check the package again. Here's my question. Using plastic shot cups or wads with a tight choke like that. I obviously have to unscrew the choke to load up not a problem but a friend told me it could be dangerous if the choke is too tight. Will the plastic shot cup pass thru the choke? Or will it ruin my pattern? Any info or suggestions are much appreciated

I have 2 BP shotguns but both have cylinder bores. An unsplit plastic cup makes my guns throw a pretty tight pattern out to 30 yards.

With an extra-full choke there should be no need to use a shot cup and that would decrease your back-pressure. Also using thinner fiber wads would help to keep the pressures safe.

I have a Knight TK2000 mz shotgun. It has a screw on extra full choke and I also have a modified choke for it. I use the plastic 12 ga. 3 1/2" split wad cups. I have no issue getting the wads through the choke tube. It is an absolute slayer at 40 yds with the ex-full choke on turkey loaded with 6 shot and 100 gr RS.

I experimented with buckshot, but have yet to have much success with it in the tk2000. For some reason it won't pattern, it goes all over the place. 30 yrds and putting 3-4 pellets in a 12"x12" target out of 15, 00 buckshot unacceptable to me.

Try using the modified choke and ten 00 pellets in the same shot cup you're already using but wrap it in a ring of scotch tape so the petals don't open. It should be good to 20-25 yards .. .. maybe a bit more.

Thanks randyray41 yeah I was looking at the tk2000 but the traditions was easier to get. Guys who have the tk aren't giving them up and who can blame them.

Hey thanks I actually got out to shoot it today and I gotta say I was a Lil disappointed. I started out with 80 grains of Pyrodex and equal amount by volume of 6 shot and at 20 yards give or take I was getting roughly 6 to 9 pellets on an 8 inch shoot n see target. I didn't have have enough time to really play around with the load to much aside from different amounts of powder to shot combos. I have a question for you tho randyray41 I noticed the shot cup was more or less right under my target how far out from the barrel do they normally open up? And my second question is if I used an unslit cup and it is not designed to open how well do the pellets leave the cup? Wouldn't it travel like a slug? I've heard it called "slugging" . Again thanks for all your help and advice I'm big into mls but new to the ml shotgun. So again thanks for sharing your wisdom!!

Rattus58 thanks for the link I was reading and it says it must be slit three quarters of the way before loading do you slit it? I cannot remember if my choke was .665 or .660 I wanna whack a turkey this season I missed the first season due to not feeling confident enough to take one down with one shot but I have a few months til the fall season here in massachusetts and I can't wait. Any tips you got for me are very much appreciated! !

Jayrock. I'm no expert with my TK. I bought it this February. My shot cup travels about 20 yards or so. You should be getting way more pellets in a 8" target at 25 yards. I will post a pic of a target @ 40 yards tomorrow. Don't think I can do it from my phone. If you get the opportunity, get you one. It's light, has nice sights, and has camo finish. The only draw back is the primer holders. You can put the on with your finger but it takes the primer remover or a knife tip to remove.

I paid a premium price for mine. It was new or maybe only shot once but I could t tell. Bought it off gun broker almost $400. Knight is selling them again. They have them listed for 599 I believe.

40 yards with the TK2000 #6 shot and 100 gr pyrodex RS
8 1/2" X 11" sheet of paper

I get my shot cups from Ballistic products as well. They have very reasonable pricing! When I first got my TK 2000 I bought a bag of shot cups from Knight. Believe 20 were $11 or so. Bought a bag of 100 , exact same cup, not a difference other than packaging for not much more than the 20 cost me.

Patocazador, I will try the ring of tape. I don't for see me really using buck shot but I did want to experient some to see how I can get it to group.
