I had originally started building this 10/22 for the local optical class in our local benchrest matches. But honestly after shooting a custom 40x most of a season I'm a little burnt out on that level of competition especially the price point of ammo and most importantly practice to compete with "those guys"

So I got a wild idea to put sights on this rifle to compete in a much less competitive open sight division with bulk grade std velocity ammo. The rules state the bbl has to be stock so I glued on a tech sights front adapter that takes A1 posts and went with a Williams FP-AG-TK rear. Amazingly it actually works depending on the exact load will zero at 50 with the rear sight all the way down. It has .300 front post and could probably use the next size up. Cheap agila super extra is looking very promising.

Best of all being a semi I don't have to break sight picture to shoot a string. I'm actually pretty excited about learning more about the high precision nuances of iron sight shooting before I'm too old to do so anymore

I much prefer that AMT setup, because it brings the peep closer to the eye. I did my own (on a 10/22) with the peep even closer to the eye, sort of like a tang-mounted lever-action. Though I used my (extended) homemade mount with the factory receiver screws on my 10/22.

I'd like to know about your sight arrangement

It's Lothar Walther diopter (from a match crossbow) with a Lyman Globe Front, mounted on a dovetailed riser screwed to the barrel.

The rear sight just clamps onto the AMT's integral dovetail -- I've also got a rubber eyeshade for the aperture that I usually leave unmounted. It's also found on many target air rifles:

I have seen those and was wondering how well they worked

I don't shoot well enough for my opinion to really matter. I can say that the adjustments on mine are quite precise.

Some of the Swiss dudes in one of my FB groups swear by similar diopters on military straight pulls for known distance competition.

I'm jealous. Exactly what I need is to drop another $1000 on a 10/22. Love your rifle, thanks for sharing.

I understand your comment about "those guys".

Back when I did small bore silhouette I was always a mid pack shooter, and usually used a different gun every week. So I went in with a different mind set.

That said there is a great deal of satisfaction when you smoke a guy with his name on the back of his fancy jacket, and some german gun maker that starts with an A patches here and there, with a Tasco scoped Marlin 25n.

My guess is that some w higher end gear tend to experiment and can screw themselves up in doing so

Nothing against Marlin 25.

But it aint gonna be an Anschutz.
Even my lower end sporters were pretty darn good.

Of course some folks just dress the part. And others that actually justify such garb can have a bad day.

I want to beat people on their good days.

As far from my interests as iron sight Rimfire BR with a 10/22 would tend to be for me these days, this thing has SERIOUS curb appeal.

What I was trying to say was some people want to play the game, and others want to play a game, and yet others want to play games.

I just used that as an example, a real example, but an example....point I was trying to make unless the loose nut behind the trigger is nice and tight it really does not matter how much you spend on the equipment.

I did the same thing when I shot CMP matches. One month I would show up with a type 99, next month MAS36, next month a trapdoor springfield...I think I shot my garand once, and never shot my AR, but my kid always shot the AR...with the trapdoor I managed to finish before time was up. But I wanted to play with the different guns I had.....for me it is just fun to do stuff outside the box. I don't compete against anyone but myself.
