Fresh back from the folks at Red Jacket with the tag still on her.

attachment.php

Specs:

-Century rebuild package (Fully inspected for proper riveting and headspacing -FCG replaced with smooth and tuned G2 - Machine marks removed from bolt and carrier - Receiver tuned, rails planed and smoothed - Sight assembly/gas block aligned - Complete refinish with KG Industries GunKote 2401).

-Barrel chopped to ~17.25". It's slightly longer than a paratrooper, the gas tube and piston are stock PSL.

-Barrel threaded and Red Jacket Custom Flash-Hider added.

-Russian 8x42 scope.

(The plan is to add one of their monocore suppressors as soon as I have the money. I don't expect this gun to be silent, but I want it quieter).

I'll update soon after I shoot it this weekend.

While I am a fan of the PSLs, I wonder if much of your money will have been wasted. Not referring to the barrel; hell that might help. But I wonder about the rest of the stuff (other than trigger-that's a must). The rifle is only capable of so much accuracy. That said, I definately look forward to a range report to see what it's capable of.

Actually, most of the barrel chopping had little to do with improving accuracy. I just wanted a PSL that fit in a regular gun case and wasn't a pain to haul around. From what I read, accuracy was about the same or slightly better with a shorter barrel. I liked the look of the paratrooper, but wanted to be able to remove the flash-hider without having to register as an NFA weapon. I also didn't want to have to have the gas tube and piston modified.

With a can it will be roughly the same dimensions as a regular PSL, but quieter. I'll rarely shoot the rifle past 200 yards anyway, so it's good enough for what I need it for. I have this "thing" where I like all my rifles to be Kalashnikov based. I've shot other rifles but I just feel at home and comfortable around a Kalashnikov.

nice PSL carbine, can imagine with a shorter barrel some cool flames comin outa that thing

you cut the gun to fit the case
a 1750 pelican case should have fit it just fine. I can't help but think you would have been better off buying a .308 saiga rather than chopping a nice PSL. But it's your gun.

Do you own one in original configuration? It's rather unwieldy. Also, I wanted a gun in 7.62x54, which I can currently buy in tins for under $100. Keep in mind that I will be adding a suppressor to this in the near future. A can off the end of a standard PSL is going to make the already long barrel over 30"! I needed a shorter barrel to keep it manageable.

Awesome! I've wanted a PSL for a while, but I don't really have anywhere around me to shoot one at. Is there any concern with using a suppressor and corrosive ammo?

Only thing I'd've done different is a different/more comfortable stock. Never been a fan of that particular style of thumbhole.

Looks good! I'd agree with the notion of changing the stock, but then again I'm left-handed.

I bet it'll really shine with a good suppressor...

if you so wish, could you point us in the ballpark of what you paid

It was around $400. I shipped it to them the week of Xmas, got it back around a month later.

I had the same feeling... so I had them drill the square hole for the AK pistol grip nut, should I choose to change it to a pistol grip configuration.

I lusted over a PSL for a long time then finally got one. I sold it about a month later.... Cleaning after the corrosive ammo was a major pain and I couldn't hit a bucket at a hundred yards with it.

Seeing yours makes me wish I had kept it and done that to it...
