I noticed a few Savage 110 threads lately, so I thought I would post a couple of pics of my Savage 110Ls from the early 60's.

The .243 is in the 50000 serial number range and has a Weaver rings and a K6 scope on it. I believe it has an after market stock made from some beautiful feather crotch walnut in what looks to me as a Weatherby style.

The .30-06 is in the 27000 serial number range and has a Redfield Bear Cub 2 3/4 power scope on a Williams mount. The rest of the gun appears to be all original.

Both guns are very accurate with nice crisp triggers. Both were purchased used exactly how they look in the pictures.

Back in the 60's Savage made a premier grade rifle. It had fancy wood, gloss blueing. If you have a Savage Butt Plate it may well be a savage. The early Primer grade had cut checkering, I see that missing from yours. But I seem to remember that at the end of the Premier Grade run, cut checkering was eliminated, and no checkering at all was used.
There is a forum called Savage Shooters, some one over there can shed more light on this subject.

Thanks Gents,
The red recoil pad is an old Noshoc and the black one is a Pachmayr White Line.

Here's a bonus pic for all the southpaws:

it's marked FRIEDRICH WILH HEYM and MADE IN GERMANY. It's .30-06, and has double set triggers and a real nice scope mount that is quickly detachable. The barrel is marked KRUPP SPECIAL FAUFSTAHL and the stock appears to be some really nice French Walnut.

Sometimes, being left handed has it's advantages. All these guns were found locally and sold inexpensively because they are were for lefties. Of course, it's taken a dozen years to find these three...

I've been keeping my eye open for a 110 in 308 just like the one on the right,I like the lighter wood.i would like a 60s or early 70s.

Nice pair of rifles.

I've got an opportunity to purchase a Savage 110, in .243 with a very nice checkered stock with a steel/metal butt plate for $300.00. The only thing I could find wrong with it, is the safety wont' budge off the safe position. Note it has a Weaver mounted 4X scope on it which is very clear.
