I sent this to the president at whitehouse.gov
Dunno if he will read it or even consider my argument. But if a new AWB gets passed and I did nothing I have no right to bitch.
I'm writing in regards to the upcoming sunset of the 1994 Clinton crime bill that infringed upon the rights of millions of gunowning Americans. I feel that law should be allowed to sunset as it was designed to and no new gun ban should replace it.
The facts and figures from the ATF and CDC and FBI Uniform Crime reports have indicated that the 'assault weapon' ban has had close to ZERO effect on violent crime. However it does make it difficult and expensive for law abiding gun owners like myself to find ammunition magazines that work properly.
As a result of the ban I am forced to pay a premium on 10-20 year old surplus magazines that may or may not function safely. This unconstitutional ban has also effected our brave men and women in the armed forces. The government issued magazines for the M9 service pistols have issues with spring fatigue and are considered by many soldiers to be too unreliable for use in battle. However the soldier's friends and families here in the states are unable to procure new magazines to send to them in care packages due to the ban. They have to settle for the Clinton-era 10 round magazines, many of which have manufacturing defects, unlike the standard capacity production models.
The ban accomplished nothing to make America safer. Columbine still happened while the ban was in effect. The ban did not stop the DC snipers. Criminals simply do NOT care what laws are passed.
The definition of insanity is to continue a certain behavior over and over but expect different results. This gun control insanity must end, just like prohibition.
A concerned American and Bush in 2000 voter,
