Swiss Waffenfrabrik Bern model 1911 (so-called "Schmidt-Rubin"), manufactured in 1915.
Note the bronze muzzle cap, always sure to garner comments at the range (and don't forget to remove it!!)

I respect your decision to avoid shooting it.

However, if I was assured of functionality, I couldn't help myself. I would have to shoot it, at least several times.

Damn, that's hard as I don't have just one. There are different ones for different purposes.
An Astra Constable in .380, the first handgun I ever bought.

A Ruger Single Six, .22LR/Mag. Not old but I have used it to hunt squirrels and rabbits and I'm please with the .22LR accuracy.

Then, for most of my hunting, a Stevens 311 that is almost as old as I am.

My oldest are both Colts-1903 Colt Hammerless in 7.65 delivered in August 1917, 104 years old & still looking marvelous.


& a 1949 Woodsman that got a workout on 22 day yesterday, it’s only 72 years old & just getting broken in now.

A Colt Officers Model Heavy Barrel .38 Special from at least the 1930’s, possibly earlier.

The rear sight and trigger shoe were all worked on by the legendary Dean King in San Francisco, who also welded/widened and recheckered the hammer and did an action job that the Gods on Olympus would be proud of. (DW King died in 1945.)

Winchester Model 69a, made sometime in the 1940s, bought by me about 15 years ago at an antique store for $60. I have had its younger brother, a model 72a, made in the 50s, since I was a kid. Bumped into this one badly needing an oiling and to be shot. Absolutely love it.

A great shooter that predates the year my grandparents met each other. The pre-1961 internal extractor, plus the serial number and proof stamps, indicate this P35 was made in the Fabrique Nationale factory in Liege after the Germans abandoned it, some time between 1944 and 1947. It was most likely exported to Israel, where it was worn by someone (or probably various someones) as a sidearm frequently enough that the roll marking has partially worn off the slide. I added some Hogue rosewood grips to it this week. Did I mention it's fun to shoot?

1933 Colt Police Positive Special. Oldest gun in my collection and a great shooter. For some reason, I like shooting it one-handed; it points and balances incredibly well.

I have a 1955 Model 12 pristine condition, One day I thought I would start hunting dove with it since I have no one to leave it to, might as well shoot it right ?
Well it was full choke and I did not like that so i toted it down to the local gunsmith shop and asked them to ream it to improved cyclinder .
The gun smith said are you sure you want to ream it out its a very nice model 12, I said well whats it worth he looked in his blue book and said about $4oo.
I said hell if thats all its worth ream it and left, well 2 weeks later I come for my model 12 and while I was waiting to be waited on I was looking at the rack of used guns .
I saw 2 model 12's in that rack one was $1600 and the other was $1200 but were worn and well used.
Im betting the gunsmith would have liked to buy that 12 cheap ? I dont buy there anymore.

Here's my favorite shooter.....Uberti '71 Open Top. It was used for some time at the daily shootout re-inactment at the OK Corral in Tombstone by the gentleman who played Virgil Earp. Lots done to the internals makes it a super sweet shooter. It goes great with my '73 Trapdoor too.
