My favorite Self-Deafness gun

Prior to joining a gun club, most all my indoor shooting was done at a local gun shop/range.

Having recently acquired a 30 Carbine NMB, I took it to said range & when queried about my chamberings, I said, 357 Sig; 38 Super & 30 Carbine. The associate says, no rifles allowed on the range, to which I replied, the 30's a smoke wagon!

I was told to wait while he went to talk with the shop owner. Owner comes back & tells me that they don't allow 30 Carbines because they're distracting flame throwers that are far too NOISY! So I ask, How about my 500 S&W revolver, are those okay? He said, Yes, those are allowed here. I laughed out loud, thanked him & drove to a different range.

500 S&W - 44 Mag - 30 Carbine
Ironically, my favorite local indoor range counts M1 Carbines as PCCs and allows them on the pistol/ rimfire side. I get some interesting looks from folks when I'm plinking on the pistol range with the Carbine or any of my .22 military trainers.

They do ask .500 S&W shooters to use the centerfire rifle lanes. And they ban Mosin-Nagants all together, lol.

The first idea when reading this topic's title about Deafness, although it was a very brief misunderstanding:

try to shoot centerfire guns outside where there is no roof. Don't ever shoot at an inside range unless necessary. Truly terrible:scrutiny: inside with a 7.62x39. .223 or .308, using plugs along with normal "mickey mouse" outer devices.

The wood grips are comfortable - they were made to my hand tracing - up to fairly stout recoil. When approaching full power with the gun, though, the stock rubber grips go back on. I really hate the way they look, but they do work!

I think the 4" barrel is a mistake, compounded by the compensator - really, it is a 3" barrel with an inch of loudener tacked on. I believe the gun looks and performs better with a 5" unported barrel - John Ross had it exactly right, and I still don't understand why S&W doesn't make that gun a regularly cataloged item.
I agree that 500 magnum needs longer barrel. So much powder comes out of the barrel and only burns outside of it. But the reason I got a 4" version it just looks more beautiful and proportional. I buy guns not for what they do but how they look. When I was in competition sport I had guns for what they did not how they looked. As far as accuracy I can get 5 to 6" groups handheld over 50 yards. I went to an indoor 50-yard range and the owner told me he would not let me shoot there for fear that I could damage walls or ceiling in his new range. After me not giving up he agreed to test me and gave me only one chance. No redo, no sorry messed up, not even letting me sight in my gun. He had his 2 guys watch me shoot and they gave me a circle if I would go out of that circle they move me to a handgun range and not let me shoot in a rifle range. I passed the test. I was the only one allowed to shoot there with 500 magnum.

Huh?

;)

Any independent reviews backing up their claims?
As far as I know, this is a new Armored Boss Shield that came out this year and I haven't seen any independent tests. I've only seen this video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/udZSKv1jZMs
I'd love to test it but I like it too much to destroy it. I find it very useful if you are in the office or get up at night to check outside of the house or in case of an intruder I can get to it really fast and it looks really beautiful on my desk.

Between shooting with no ear pro in my early shooting days because that's what all the tough guys did and swinging a hammer in confined spaces, being exposed to construction noise, palm nailers, hammer drills, etc. I have no idea what hurt my ears the most but I'm a big ear pro guy now. I want to hang onto the hearing I have left which isn't too bad, I'm constantly saying "what" but part of that is the fact that some of my loved ones are prone to mumbling, either that or my hearing is worse than I thought.

This is my self deaf-ness gun:
If ever had to shoot it indoors in self defense, I expect I would be half deaf.

Shorty J-frame, +P .38SPL, indoors. I call it "My Fourth of July Gun" because the flash and sound is like a 10" aerial salute going off.

When I finally went to have my ears sorted out... I honestly believed my hearing "wasn't that bad.." and was jerked up short by the folks I dealt with. After testing they said that my hearing was profoundly compromised... Now I have aids in both ears and the difference is very noticeable. Yes, these days anyone can sell you hearing aids - but first go to a certified audiologist and get tested... You'll be glad you did.
