This is one mean looking gun. If this doesn't scare a perpetrator nothing will. On the first day I put like 10 slugs through it. Muuuuuch better recoil than slugs out of my Mossy 500. Pleasant surprise. Not so pleasent surprise, the hits on the target which was only 25 yards away were all over the place. This using the front bead sight but still. Kinda odd. Maybe it was the ammo...LAW ENFORCEMENT STRIKE SLUG... Made in Italy

Today had a Bushnell TRS25 red dot on it and shot Federal #8 birdshot. No slugs allowed at this range. Wow, at 25 yards (the max distance today) I hit every clay pigeon I placed on the ground. Easy as pie. Now waiting to give the slugs another try with the sight....

Hey Count, glad you like the 930 so far.

I am more and more interested in the 930 as time goes on and they're coming out with more variations - like the signature series / Jerry Miculek Pro Series 930. I always like to hear range reports.

Have you shot low brass out of it yet ?

Don't have any low brass and not sure if I will get some. "Supposedly" the 930 eats everything.... :) Note that this model is fairly heavy. Much heavier than my 500. Not sure about the other 930 models.

UPDATE: Didn't really know what low/high brass meant. Yes, shoots low brass Federal bulk birdshot w/out any problems.

I'd try other ammo. I've never had bad luck with Remington Sluggers. I can group 'em into 2-3" at 50 yards with the bead on my double barrel, don't need no stinkin' sight.

Yes, a gas gun is easy on the shoulder. Funny thing I've found, my Winchester 1400 is a bird gun. I mostly have dove hunted with it, but use it on ducks occasionally. With those high brass heavy steel loads, it attenuates recoil better than with dove loads. By that I mean, the felt recoil DIFFERENCE in it and my Mossberg 500 is significantly greated with the heavy loads. the gas attenuation, the effect of the action on recoil seems to be more noticeable.

Is that model #85336? I saw one of those 930 models in a 4+1 at WW for $475. and almost bought it. Went back a few days later and it was gone. I'm sorry I didn't now. I've heard good reports about it. Try some Remington and Federal slugs and 00-buck. You should have better groups. Let us know how it does with better shells.

If you got the 4+1 all you need for it now is a +2 extension tube.

Kudos on the new buy :D

Yes sir, thats my exact model. I paid $520 but got a good price on my trade so happy in the end. For Under $480 this is almost a must buy!!! Like I said, w/the sight and shooting WW Federal birdshot ($22.95 a box of 100) I was a happy camper. Next up buck shot and other slugs. Yipeeee. About the extension tube, have heard a ton of stories of all kinds of issues with extensions. Anything really reliable out there?

I got the SPX for $589 almost 2 years ago. Couldn't find another type of 930 to save my soul, but since mine was for HD I suppose it's the right one. Mine has eaten and spit out everything from low-brass target to 00 buck from several manufacturers without ever giving me problems. I love the 930. For an extension tube, get the Choate that was made for the SPX.

Followed your advice and tried the Remington Slugger. Wow, went where it was supposed to, hit after hit, while the Strike Force crap continued to hit at 12 o'clock, 9 o'clock, etc. at the exact same distance.

I used to think the heat shield was gimmicky. Well, I rapid fired my Mossy 500 and Ouch! Talk about a hot barrel. So I'm glad the 930 has one...
Shotgun barrels are usually especially thin so they get hot very easily... On top of that, holding the shotgun with one hand almost requires you to touch the barrel. They may look tacticool but heat shields are really quite practical if you don't mind the weight.
