A Manhurin PP .32ACP from Centerfire systems for $273.38 shipped.

:D

It's in pretty good shape for a 30-40 year old gun.
The only really worn spot is on the front strap where the German police stamped in a number.

I've got some ammo coming in from Midway next week and I'll see how she shoots.

I have to admit that I dont understand what makes a C&R firearm.

I thought that they had to be an out of production design, like 100 years out of production, or shoot a cartridge that is no longer being commercially manufactured????????

The PPK design is still made, and the .32 acp is still produced????????

So why would this be a C&R gun, but a new PPK in .32 acp is not??????

I may be wrong, but I think that C&R guns have to be at least 50 years old or be on a specific list put out by the BATF/E. So yes, a PP that was produced in 1951 would be C&R eligible, but one that was produced in 1985 would not.

'What are Curios and Relics' from the ATF Curios and Relics List:

As set out in the regulations (27 CFR 178.11), curios or relics include firearms which are of special interest to collectors by reason of some quality other than is associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons. To be recognized as curios or relics, firearms must fall within one of the following categories:

1.) Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof;
2.) Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and
3.) Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event. Proof of qualification of a particular firearm under this category may be established by evidence of present value and evidence that like firearms are not available except as collector's items, or that the value of like firearms available in ordinary commercial channels is substantially less.

In this case, the PP's are former German police guns that are stamped 'Manhurin' instead of 'Walther'.

The shoulder holster that came with it even has the name (Zeibermayr) of the officer it was issued to written inside of the flap cover.

In the time frame that these guns were made, Manhurin actually made both the Walther and their own guns under license from Walther. Walther took the Manhurin guns, polished up the internals a bit, stamped their own name on them, and sold them as 'German' PP's.

I guess the C&R aspect comes from the fact that these are Manhurin stamped guns, and they're probably rarer than the Walther stamped guns.

Edit: The manhurin guns are specifically named in the ATF's C&R list:

Walther, model PP and PPK semiautomatic pistols, in all cals., mfd. in France and marked "MANHURIN".

Welcome to the dark side, glockman. Get ready to be in the poor house.

A C&R license is the best thing going for firearms enthusiasts currently. It's the best $30 I ever spent.

I can get $60 Mosin Nagants that are re-arsenalled to like new condition with a new bore delivered to my front door. Oh the horror. The scream you just heard was my checkbook telling me to lay off for a while......

screams

i can live with the screams from the checkbook....the deals are too good...russinan m44's from sog for 39.00 etc....my first c&r was a molina..you can see it by clicking in my signature....enjoy the new freedom to buy

Nice PP.

One thing to watch for when shooting it is the trigger pin. One of my friends got a Manhurin PP like yours and we noted that the trigger pin started walking out the side of the frame. It went back in with minimal pressure, but before we saw it we couldn't figure out why the gun malfed.

The BBT dropped of my HI-Standard HD Military .22 yesterday. Looks to be in about 95% condition. 35$ for a C&R license. Money well spent.

I sent my C&R paperwork in last week. A friend has a C&R and has saved a lot of money. He has spent a lot also.....of course.

I just got my first C&R today (I got the license just for the discount at Brownell's) a 91/30 Mosin Nagant from AIM. I did not pay for hand pick, but I got a Tula hex reciever in great shape with great wood and no pitting under the stock. I have a bad feeling about this C&R thing. :D

glocksman, bud, you're going to go broke real quick. I got my C&R over the summer of this year. So far:

CZ-52
Star 9mm Largo
1894 Nagant Revolver
Luger .30

Still on the list:

Molina .45
Systema .45
The one you just got :D
Astra 400 (just because it's a pistol)

And any other pistol that I can find that is C&R to get :D

"Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event."

This point is why the S&W Model 53, the .22 Jet, is a Curio & Relic.

Congrats on the new gun. The PP was my first C&R puschase. I bought it last month. What a shooter! I ordered new mags from CDNN. They require that I press the mag release button to insert, but I think if I little file work will fix this (on the mags). I ordered S&B from Cheaper than Dirt.

I'm still trying to figure out my next purchase. I have a Yugo Mauser that I bought pre-C&R and it was what hooked me. Next is probably a Persian Mauser, then...

Regards,
tjg

Ahh, Persian Mausers. Get one while you can before they get really out of hand. The wholesaler (Samco) is down to scraps so private sales are probably the best place to shop now. They are really nice rifles. The nicest milsurp that I own. My Garands, M39 Mosins and Swede Mausers are all great, but none as fine as a Persian. I have 3 Persians now and they will put 10 rounds into one 1/2" hole at 50 yards with open sights. No matter how hot the barrel got too. I was astounded and I honestly haven't shot a bolt rifle that nice before or since.

The price has gone up to about $270-300 for one that is in VG condition.

outdoorman63,

Did you cut the fingergrooves off of the grips on your Molina? Did you just use a razor? looks good, I like those grips, I've seen them around, but don't like the finger grooves.

C&R Purchase

Congratulations, my overall favorite CCW is a 1974 police surplus PP. I reload for it and shoot it regularly. Is a surprisingly accurate gun.
