I stopped by More to Life Outfitters in Clinton, TN (thanks hso) today to look at their selection of Samuel Riner knives.

This beautiful knife came home with me...

(Sorry, my photographic skills aren't on par with the quality of the knife)

I have been wanting a Riner knife since hso posted one of Riner's damascus blades on here a while back.

For such a young man, Riner is an amazingly talented knifemaker.

This is my first custom made knife but it won't be my last Riner.

I like the knife, but it needs a classy leather sheath. What are the specs? Length, blade steel, handle material etc.
I agree. I may have a leather sheath made for it. I will say that the kydex sheath does seem very well made and retains the knife securely.

The knife is 8.5" overall with a 4" blade. The steel is 80CrV2 and the handle material is fibermascus (like a canvas Micarta).

It is one of the Cane Creek models and the handle pattern is called Pebbles Canvas.

From what I was told, Riner started out making handle material and added blade making later on.

Wish I were better at photos because the quality of the knife is very obvious looking at it in person.

Riner's website looks like it still a work in progress, but will give an idea of what he offers.

That's a nice looking knife and a good size. I like kydex for a lot of uses. But that is just too pretty to be in Kydex.

I was in Knoxville last week for a couple of days visiting relatives. Clinton isn't that far. I may have to give them a look next time I'm there. Thanks for sharing.

Riner started out making handle material and added blade making later on.

He grew up with his dad making "fibermascus". So naturally he took up bladesmithing at 15 after he was old enough to forge, which was after laying up the laminate growing up. He's not even 23.

That's good to know, hso.

Also, thank you for introducing me to Riner knives through this forum.

Joe and I were discussing how talented a knifemaker Riner is especially to just be 22.

He also mentioned that a customer of his has a Riner damascus knife for sale that is similar to the damascus blade you posted here a while back.

It has already tempted me to purchase another Riner knife.

Samuel is one of the nicest guys you'll meet.

You can reach out to him and ask for something specific like when he's going to forge damascus or a specific pattern.

If you want a fancy sheath for a knife made by someone in Tn you could check https://www.chattanoogaleatherworks.com/ . I've had Penergrass Shoe Repair in Kvile repair vintage sheaths before so I bet they could sew a simple fitted sheath up in short order.

And, if anyone is in the Knox area let me know.
