Hello everyone. A few days ago I bought my second gun and first revolver. It is a Taurus M605 in 357 magnum. I didn't have allot of money to spend. I went to my local gun shop and he had quite a few revolvers, But not many in my price range. So I looked at a few revolvers made by Charter Arms and Ruger. After looking through a few brands I came across the M605 that was on sale for 289.00. I held it and checked it out and was surprised at how well built it felt. It also helped that It was on sale. I still plan on owning a Smith and Wesson someday, But for now I am more then content with the Taurus M605.

Decent gun, decent price, decent pics.

You've done well for yourself. You've gotta start somewhere, and you're already covering a lot of bases with those two guns.

First of all I had to reply to your post. Great gun and good luck with it. I think you'll be very happy with it's performance.

Now for my rant - I get ticked off with people who reply to a post with some other inane comment, like "its not a Ruger or a Smith" - so what - I own all and Ruger and Smith are tools too. They all have issues. Another stupid comment "look for an upgrade". Why? What is some other manufacturer going to give you that this doesn't? They all throw bullets downstream. They all fire when the trigger is pulled - if they don't then find out what's wrong and get it fixed. My Taurus Tracker in .357 is probably my most accurate revolver I own, bar none. Some idiot will tell me the Taurus shoots 1" groups and Oh gee - my Smith shoots 15/16" groups - it's soooo much better. Idiot. I always take a Ransom rest to the range or out hunting. Doesn't everyone?!

So people - when a member posts a gun he purchased and is proud of it - wish them well and keep your mouth shut. If you have a derogatory comment, put it in a seperate post somewhere. You want to flame people - you want to criticize - there are enough liberals out there doing that already - I've said enough.

Jermz1987 - good luck with your purchase. Take care of it and God forbid you ever need it to defend yourself, it'll take care of you. You're going to enjoy the Taurus - as I said, my Taurus Tracker is my most accurate revolver I own. They're good guns.

Later....

NOOOO YOU'VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE! Not that you bought a tuarus, I could care less about that (never had one). You made the mistake of buying a revolver. All other wonder pistols will suddenly start becoming less and less attractive. You'll start to carry the revolver more and more and start to love the mechanical workings of it. I've gone through this problem and just wish I would have got to you in time before you took the plunge :-( lol all kidding aside, I find that revolvers are taking up more and more of my firearm dream time and wish list! Although 1911's and browning Hi Powers aren't getting shoved off my love list, they just have more company.

You probably know this already, but don't start out shooting 357 rounds in that gun. Use 38 specials until you are comfortable and competent. No, I won't say that Rugers and S&Ws are "better" for any practical purpose; your gun is every bit as good and you should enjoy it for a lifetime. If you are going to shoot a lot of 357s down the road, though, Rugers do take punishment better than any gun I've seen.

Amen! and welcome to the world of revolvers. It will probably not be your last revolver. It really does not matter what brand of revolvers you own. If your happy with the performance and reliability that is what counts. Practice with your new revolver and you will learn that a revolver is as good a self defense gun as most autoloaders.

Good luck!,

That's a smokin' deal. I like that finish Taurus put on their revolvers. I don't own a Taurus (just because I haven't gotten around to getting one), but my buddies who do have let me shoot them and I find no problems that would convince me not to get one.

I know a little about the revolver infection. I have one and every time I go to the gun store they seem to be calling my name like a cigarette a week after quitting. Insipient little bastards. Auto's just don't do it for me. Sure, they're fun to shoot, hold a ton of ammo, and are the right tool for the job in many occasions, but revolvers to me just seem to have a little more class than the poly-pistol of the month or the any mil/leo workhorse. When I head to my local range it seems like everyone ad their dog has some pistol they're running rapid fire at the closest possible target. They're all vanilla when I pull out my 44 Mag it's like they all stop worrying about magazine capacity and envy the idea of flat-out stopping power. To every one of their pop's I had a thunderous KA-BOOM! And FWIW, I would love to open my safe to a several shelves (if not an entire safe full) of revovlers of many and diverse make, caliber, and configuration.

Good purchase, have fun with it.

Thanks guys for the comments. I took it to the range for the first time today. I have never fired a 357 in such a small package before. I started off with 127 grain federal rounds and it was surprisingly accurate and manageable. After I built up the nerve I tried the 357, and wow.....what a kick, Not as bad as I was making it out to be but it sure lets you know your firing it.

Congratulations...I just bought my third gun/first revolver a used but impeccably clean GP100 that had the been sold to the store a day earlier by the original owner. You would never know it was originally sold in 1988. Pretty excited myself to get a revolver. I hope you enjoy it.

Congrats on the new revolver. I personally think those are the best deal going in the the snub market. WARNING- Wheel guns a.k.a "the thinking man's gun" are very addicting. I use a Desantis Nemisis pocket holster, it will carry great in the front pocket of your pants.

Congratulations on your new revolver! My first handgun was a Smith & Wesson revolver, but I've fired many Taurus revolvers and think they're fine firearms. I'd feel great having one in my pocket... or in my gun safe... or in my car.... well, you get the picture. :D

Enjoy it! As others are saying, revolvers are VERY addictive. My primary carry is now an auto but I still drool over my revolver almost daily. Sometimes I carry it just because I like it that much. ;)

I've owned several Taurus revolvers over the years, including the 605. I think they make a great revolver (yes, great), and the newer ones rival the newer S&Ws at a fraction of the price (I have owned several S&Ws too).

That 605 will make a terrific carry gun. Though, as you already see, shooting .357mag out of it is a bit stout. So, here is your excuse for your next gun (and really get your developing revolver addiction going). You "need" to pick up a 3" or 4" medium frame .357mag. If you can find a 3" K-frame you'd be hard pressed to find a better balanced firearm, and with grips that fill your hand they feel great, are very comfortable to shoot, and still are concealable guns (I love my S&W 65LS)- it will allow you a lot more practice time with magnum rounds. Another you "need" to try is a full-sized S&W N-frame (nothing sweeter than an N-frame trigger or grip feel, if it isn't too big for your hand).

BTW- Nice choice on the CZ as your first gun. I've had one for several years now (I have over 10K rounds through it, possibly as many as 15K but I stopped counting some time ago so I don't know for sure).

Nice revolver. Nice CZ too! I have a Taurus Model 85 Ultralight. It is so light to carry and I forget sometimes I'm carrying. It has always fired when I pulled the trigger. Once you get used to the lengthy double action pull, you can easily shoot rapid 5 shots in a 8" paper plate at 10 yards. Buy snap caps and practice with the long pull trigger.

Congrats on the revolver, I also have the 605 and the 905 9mm and they are awesome revolvers. My opinion of Taurus revolvers is very good after my last 2 purchases. After an action job they are very smooth and rival S&W J frames for slickness of handling. I have been carrying the 905 as my CC as of late and love the size and weight, good luck with yours and I am sure it will serve you well.

Thanks guys. You are all right...Revolvers are addictive. I really want another one. Unfortunately I live in New Jersey and I cant carry, and I have to apply for more permits, But this gun is my home defense gun.

congrats... it will serve you well as long as you take care of it... taurus is producing some very quality guns. I own two of them... a pt1911 and a 608... the 608 is the best shooting handgun I have yet had the opportunity to shoot and the Pt1911 shoots even better than my springfield.

I remember starting out with one revolver. Now, I have more than a dozen. Watch out -
You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
