I just completed my first conversion on a Saiga (mine is a 7.62 x 39). It took me about 3-4 hours or so as I was in no rush and am not that skilled with tools. This was so easy I wish I would have done it sooner. I only had to grind a bit off of the safety lever so it would slide past the new trigger, but other than that there were no difficulties or surprises. I used the ATI Strikeforce folding stock which was very simple to attach (I now have a Tapco T6 Intrafuse stock I won't be using for the original trigger configuration if anyone is interested, mods delete that part if it's inappropriate or against any rules for this section).

Here's a pic of my Saiga, it currently sports an Ultimak front rail with a Bushnell TRS 25 red dot, enjoy:

12gaugeTim,

I will add a bullet guide eventually (I've got a few surefire 30 round mags that work great, so I'm not in a hurry) and will eventually have my local gunsmith thread the front of the barrel to add a flash hider or muzzle break (not sure of which is the correct terminology). As to the furniture, it's staying as is for the time being; way down the road I may try to find something that works with the Ultimak so I can add front grip on the bottom. I don't plan on messing with the gas block or adding a bayonet lug.

I just did my first one tonight as well. I did a full conversion (minus flash hider & bayonet lug). I also used a flush fitting stock cutting off the rear tang and installing an internal receiver block. Pretty easy!

Let me know how that sight holds up with shooting. Im looking for something cheap but may buy a VortexStrikefire or just put my Trijicon RMR on my saiga.

Could you do me a favor and measure from.the front of your receiver where it meets the handguard to the rear of the receiver where it meets the folding mechanism? Yours seems an inch or two shorter than mine. Hmmm

Keep in mind that adding a forward vertical grip (especially a full length one) may make mag changes difficult. This is especially applicable to the 7.62 models.

dubya450,

My receiver measures 10 and 1/8 inch from handguard to the folding mechanism.

As to the Bushnell sight, I have had it on my Saiga for about 1 year now and it has held up great and keeps zero so far through about 300 rounds or so.
