Incredible work Gunny ! Congratulations.
What no .45 GAP? JK. Very cool Gunny.Today is the first day in a week that I’ve turned something on my wood lathe. I didn’t have time to turn a bowl, still working on gun stocks so, I turned a cartridge.
This topic will show you what I’ve been doing all week.

Today I took a little break from stock work and grabbed a pice of wood from a bag of cutoffs that I bought a few months ago. I’m not sure what type of wood it is but it turned very nicely.

It took about 30 minutes from start to finish. I didn’t measure anything, just turned it with an image in my head. I’ve been thinking about making some larger ones like 50 cal or larger, but I need to order some wood spindle blanks to do that.
It was a fun little project.
Nope, just a midsize wood lathe.Gunny you got a metal lathe?
Very attractive work on the bullet, bowls and cups!
I had some military ammo when I had Swedish Mausers that had wood bullets as practice rounds, but just the projectile was wood.
That's a great ideaVery nice work. A lot of us have empty shells in 20, 25, 30mm ect. You might make some money making the projectiles that would fit in them so they look complete.. Any plain scrap wood would work as they would be painted. The link of 25mm chain gun shells I have would look cool complete. Just a thought.
That's a very nice bowl, a finish with aqua fortis would look great.Well, the main thing that I turn are bowls. I just gave this one to an old friend.

The reason I started turning bullets was to work on my spindle turning skills. I normally turn 4 to 5 bowls a week and will start turning a few bullets a week also.
My daughter keeps trying to get me to start a webpage to sell my bowls, but I just tell her that this is just a hobby to keep me busy. I don’t want to start a small business and turn my hobby into work because, it would loose all the fun.
I’m going to practice some more and fill that bowl with bullets.
Nothing ruins a hobby faster than having to do it.don’t want to start a small business and turn my hobby into work because, it would loose all the fun
It arrived today.Gunny, you will receive a long triangular package from me in a coupla' days. In it you will find a piece of scrap lumber for your collections. If you have a blowtorch, chainsaw, glue, and an axe you will probably be able to sculpt it into a wooden bowl for me, but since you are now into wooden ammo... I would greatly appreciate it if you would sculpt from it for me a 50 BMG round.. Please trade me even up for my piece of wood.
You might even be able to fashion a set of wood grips for a 45 from it.
You should get it on Thursday.
Happy belated Birthday. I’ve been under the weather the last couple of days, but will try and get you that 50 cal bullet as soon as possible.Fajen "Pre-War Winchester Model 70 30:06"
I have no male heir, only a daughter who lives in a "New York" type anti gun place. I gave the 06' to my step grandson who promises not to ever sell it. It belonged to my father I turned 78 yesterday and will be lucky to get one more year above ground. I plan to give away a few of my guns in my will. My wife can sell the remainder of them.
The stock was acquired about 20 years ago and will probably be used as firewood by my wife after I'm gone. Your collection of wood will find a place for it. I was just kidding about the chain saw.
Those are nice looking. I’ve turned over 100 bowls so far and only have two that I’ve kept for myself.View attachment 1019272 Gunny I didn't realize there were fellow turners on this site.
I've turned a couple of cartridges but bowls/plates/vases are what I mainly do.
Nice looking boolit.
