So my friend that works at the pawnshop just called me at work. The one that calls me when he has a deal and wants to drain my bank account. First it was the M-70 Extreme Weather. Then it was the Kimber Montana in 260 with the Leupold. And 30 minutes ago it was a 1975 Ruger Carbine in 44mag. “Make you a deal on it.” he says. “It’s in good shape.” he says. “Shoots great.” he says.

So I says “How much?”
“How about $400?”
A few 4 letter words and a quick check of my bank account and I’ll pick it up next time I’m at his house.

He obviously knows your weaknesses, I have a couple of shops that know mine all too well.

WOW!!! What a beautiful Ruger!!!

I had an affair with one of those, the Ruger Carbine, around 1976 or 77. Noticed the bolt was dragging on the ejection port so sent it back to Ruger. A few weeks and a new one arrives in the mail. Either the post office had mistreated the package or the stock was defective as it was cracked lengthwise across the magazine well. Off to Ruger. This had started in mid summer and the intent was for a Maine woods carbine, so now we are past deer season. Anyway the third one arrives and while it seems good I could not get it to function reliable. Tried every 44Magnum brand on the market. The gun simply would not fire feed and eject more than two rounds with out jamming. Sold it at consignment and I’ve never owned another. I bought it because I had and still have the 1022. Just one mans experience.

That is a steal on a 44 Carbine. If it is clean you can almost double your money.

Sweet carbine! I have a deerfield and a 96/44. They are such handy little rifles for thick brush and general field work. What other rifle gets you enough stopping power for any animal in North America for the weight of a 10/22?!

I will add that 44 special does not cycle the Deerfield. Doesn'tnt have the ooomph. Shoots fine but you have to manually cycle the action.

Well, I’m REALLY hoping it likes the same load that my 1894 likes. 240gr Sierra JHP over 21gr of H-110. I don’t want to have to work up another load just for it. But if I have to....
