Last night I was meeting a friend and a couple girls ;) at a local beach. When I pulled onto the road that leads to it, I saw 4 kids running away from the beach area. I didn't think anything of it at the time. I pulled into the circle at the end of the street and my friend was standing there covered in blood. He yelled to me "those kids just jumped me, don't let them get away!"

I drove around the circle and went in the direction I saw them running while dialing 911 on my cell phone. It was 1 am and the area was silent. I saw only one car in the vicinity, and it was parked, looked empty. I started to go back to help my friend, when this car started and took off.

I did a u-turn and hauled ass after them. I followed these kids for about 20 minutes, while staying on the phone with the dispatcher. They were speeding and swerving all over the road, but luckily the streets were deserted at that hour (I would not have chased them otherwise).

They finally pulled into a gated community, but they apparently didn't live there. They parked in front of the gate. I pulled my car in as far away from them as possible while still blocking them from leaving the entrance to the neighborhood.

All four of them jumped out of their car and started walking towards me. I hit my high beams to blind them and shouted out the window "I've got a gun! Dont get any closer!" One of the kids froze, the other three turned around and ran back to their car. Just then 2 cops pulled in and arrested the kids.

My friend told me these kids surrounded him, shoved him on the ground and started kicking him. He was screaming at them to stop and they just kept kicking him over and over. They only stopped when they saw my car coming down the street. He has a broken nose, cuts and bruises all over his body, and a contusion in his back. He was dizzy and couldn't walk straight, and his vision was blurry. I took him back later to get his hat, and there is blood all over the sidwalk where it happened.

One of the worst parts of all this is that I had forgotten my wallet at home, and went back to get it. If I hadn't had to go back, I would have been there earlier, and maybe this wouldn't have happened. I'm just glad I got there before it was too late.

Sorry to hear about your friend. hopfully thse punks will get what they deserve - proberly won't - but we can hope. They'll feel tough as a group but wonder how tough they'll be solo behind bars with rreal tough guys.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

If I am out in public past 11, especially on a weekend, I am armed.

Sorry about your friend, is he doing any better?

Hopefully he'll start carrying if he's going to be out like that at night.

Grrrrrrrr

Intervention by others has saved my butt in the past but I haven't had to employ that particular delaying tactic. Ouch!

No motive? Does not surprise me if that's the case. It does amaze me that there are those who disbelieve such things happen though. Bad people perceive weakness and act simply because the opportunity exists. Begging does nothing to impress them. For all I know getting you to beg is their motive and only incites them more.

Probably illogical of me but I find senseless violence particularly detestable. If anything is deserving of immediate and severe punishment this would be it. Is it too non-highroadish of me to wish they had disbelieved you about the gun? Good work nailing them. Hope your friend recovers ok.

Probably Ryder, not very ''THR'' of me either - but I agree.

There is something of the ''if you want to dish it - then you gotta be prepared to take it''!

Hmmm, better stop there ........

Four Men Attack Texas Officer

Houston, TX -- A South Houston police officer was injured after four suspects allegedly attacked him while he was off duty at a night club in the city.

K. Wang, 33, a South Houston police officer reported that he was playing pool at the Leopardo Night Club in the 600 block of Spencer Highway when four men walked into the club and recognized that he was a police officer.

The four suspects, Raul W. Daiz, 21; Julio A. Guzman, 27; Daniel Sepulveda, 20; and Cesar J. Guzman, 20, walked into the club and Sepulveda reportedly began yelling that the officer was "narcing the business," according to Herbert Gilbert, South Houston police chief, who explained that "narcing" is an unofficial phrase that an officer is working undercover in a business.

The suspects began approaching the officer and officer advised the suspects to stand back, according to Gilbert. While holding beer bottles in his hands, Daiz reportedly raised his hands toward the officer. Daiz and Julio A. Guzman reportedly approached the officer. Sepulveda circled behind the officer and struck him in the head, Gilbert said.

When the officer leaned forward, Daiz reportedly attempted to strike him with a bottle. The officer reported that he attempted to deflect the blow with his right hand and was cut by a bottle. At the same time, Julio A. Guzman hit the officer on the head with a closed fist, Gilbert said. The officer reported that he fell to the ground. Wang said that while he was on the ground the suspects began kicking him. Wang said he stood up again and identified himself, showing his identification as a police officer, and drew his weapon. The officer ordered the suspects to stand back and to stop, Gilbert said.

Daiz reportedly charged the officer with a bottle in his hand, and the officer struck Daiz and caused him to fall to the ground. The officer reported that the other suspects continued to attack him until a female employee at the bar grabbed one of the suspects. The suspects retreated, and the officer called 911 on his cellular telephone. On-duty South Houston police officers arrived on the scene when the suspects were leaving the night club, Gilbert said. He said the suspects who were fleeing on foot were apprehended and placed in custody. The district attorney's office accepted charges of engaging in organized crime for aggravated assault of a police officer, a first degree felony.

Gilbert explained that both Pasadena and South Houston have documentation that Daiz and Sepulveda are gang members.

Wang reported that he had not consumed any alcohol prior the incident.

In addition to a 2-inch cut on his hand, Wang suffered a few bruises but is back on duty, Gilbert said. The department is not conducting an internal investigation on the incident because Wang identified himself as police officer more than once during the incident, Gilbert said.

"It is kind of scary that you can't be off duty spending a little leisure time with something of this nature causing you a problem," Gilbert said.

On Friday, each of the suspects were being held at a Harris County jail on $20,000 bonds, according to Gilbert.

If the suspects are convicted, they could be sentenced up to 99 years in prison and fined up to $10,000, Gilbert said.

Please note that while a couple of them distracted the officer another circled around and hit him from behind.

Bad guys use tactics and often plan things out beforehand.

Parallax, I am glad your friend is OK, but I hope you both understand how bad it could have been.

That's what happened, one guy snuck up behind him and tackled him and then they all started kicking him. I told him he should have run away when he realized he was outnumbered, but he's in the Army and thinks he's tough ????, plus he was drinking :cuss:

Update on this, my friend didn't press charges because he didn't want to get in trouble for underage drinking, so these punks got off :fire:

I don't know what jurisdiction in which this took place, but most underage drinking laws would give him a ~$150 ticket. So he let them off to avoid something as minute as that? You can tell your friend he has now convinced the other kids that they can do this again without consequences to someone else.

He can still press charges today, tommorrow, next week, or next month. Since the police cannot prove he was drinking, he won't get busted. Tell him to suck it up and put those *mean spirited* people in jail.

He's right. If your buddy doesn't prosecute, these punks have learned a lesson about crime: They can beat people up sometimes and get away with it. Next time they'll use weapons.

Let's see, drinking and out at the beach at 1:00 a.m. I might suggest that you and your friend find a more judicious place to "hang out" in the middle of the night.

I didn't know there was drinking involved when I showed up. The cops told him that if he pressed charges for this, the cops would charge him with "Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor" since he bought the alcohol, and there were others drinking it who were under 21. He is 18. I'm not sure how that works. The cops probably didn't want to fill out paperwork.

When does the opportunity to press charges expire? I don't think the cops have them in custody anymore. Also, my friend left a few hours after this happened for Fort Hood, Texas. He's no longer in the state. If he can press charges without getting in trouble with the Army I'm sure he'd love to.

This is prezactly why I don't like to leave the house at night. I especially don't like to leave the house and go to any place that is not well lit with lots of other people around. Darkness and anonymity are conducive to criminal activity.

With all due respect, the first thing you do when a crime is committed is clean the place of all things incriminating that have nothing to do with the crime. There's no reason for the underage drinking to come up at all. Have the friends take the booze and move some distance off.

Of course, us armchair commandos and monday morning quarterbacks have the benefits of hindsight and sobriety :D

Good job tracking the punks down!

I think the kids that attacked my friend stole his alcohol, and told the cops where they got it from. I took him back later to look for it, and it was gone. We couldn't find his hat either, I guess they took that too. I get the feeling the cops really dropped the ball on this one.

Let me elaborate a little. After the police stopped the kids who did it, one cop came over to my car and told me that they couldn't find my friend. He had left with some other people because he didn't want to get in trouble for drinking.

The cops asked me to go back to the beach and look for my friend. I went back to where it happened and there were 3 cops there, they started questioning me about it. I told them I knew just about as much as they did, since I wasn't there when it happened. My friend called me on my cell phone while they were questioning me and I gave my phone to them so they could talk to him. The cop who had my phone told him to meet them at a nearby hospital. He said he would, but he never showed up. He went to his sister's house and cleaned himself up instead.

He called me a couple hours later and I met him at his house and convinced him to talk to the cops. We called them and they sent out a deputy to take his statement. The cop questioned him and told him that since there was drinking involved, if he pressed charges the cops would press charges against him for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, since there were other people drinking with him who were between the ages of 17-19, and he provided the alcohol. The cop said everyone could just forget about the whole thing, and told him to lick his wounds and forget about it. I took him to the hospital after that and that's when we found out that his nose was broken.

My friend has already left for Texas, he left a few hours after this happened (I had to pack his bags for him because he couldn't move around very well). He's at an Army base in Texas now.

So what I need to know is, what will happen to my friend if he decides to press charges? Will he get in trouble for this drinking charge? Will he get kicked out of the Army, or will he just get a slap on the wrist? Also, is it too late to press charges against the kids who did this?

It might be better for him to just let it alone. Maybe not easy to stomach, but he should not have been there in the first place.

There has to be more to this story.

The 4 kids just went up to him and assaulted him. One tackled him from behind and the other 4 dove on top?

Was your friend drunk and shooting his mouth off before this? He's underage, drinking in a public place? I'm sure the beach was posted as closed after dark as well.
