Both like shiney things. So my girlfriend likes 'pretty guns' you know AK varians 4" Gp 100, S&W 642, but now she wants a 'shiney gun,' and she keeps harping the nickel plated part.

So for grins and giggles can anyone share their pics of their 'pretty guns' and 'shiney guns' of course she's right next to me as I type this giggling under her breath. Oh and she saw a Civil War era .22 SA revolver in an old 'Freedom' magazine issue thanks of the NRA membership and she wants one....nickel plated.

Ain't nothing wrong with nickel plating, despite what some folks refer to as "pretty" in a condescending manner. Your lady might like the bright polished stainless fixed sight Single Sixes.

Here's a 2" model 15 that I paid all of $300 for a few years ago.

This one's not mine but pirated off Bob Millington's site, a gorgeous example of a nickel plated Colt 1860 cartridge conversion:

Okay, CraigC my girlfriend loves your Vaquero but she wants it with a shorter barrel. She likes snub nose revolvers it seems. She really likes your Model 15, but when I told her it was the stainless version essentially of my 15-3 and would be just as heavy. Can't win'em all and I'll have to get her to face the fact that revolvrs are 'heavy' by most women's standards. And yeah she loved the Colt 1860 and I flat said no.

Sharpdressman, my girlfriend loves your 1911s, I may a reason to own 1911s or a .45 LC revolver cause of her. Might have to not only own .357 magnum revolvers and 10mm semi-autos.

I just wonder if there is any viability to a short barreled, .45 LC revolver for self-defense, granted if you could get a 200 grain JHP at 900 fps I'm sure it would.

...I totaly though this was gonna be a joke about black eyes :uhoh:

The good news: is super cool.
The bad news: its a $1300 upgrade.

Snubbie .45 Colt? My friend has a Ruger Birdshead .45 Colt Vaquero 3.5" barrel, and it takes strong loads, easily getting 900 with a 250gr bullet. His is blued, don't recall if it was ever offered in stainless..................

Cocked and Locked, my girlfriend loved your Model 15, what's the grip on it(she thinks it's pretty) and is that a stainless version, or did you have it nickel plated.

Also she likes your 29-5. I might have to reload .44 Special. Was your Rock Island like that(minus the grip) when you bought it new or did you have polished or nickel plated, oh and where did you get the grip from while I'm asking.

Between reading shotgun news and Combat Handguns while she was working on her homework I've found that my girlfriend loves shiney 1911s, so I now certainly have an excuse to get one and I've wanted one in .38 super for reason for awhile now. I'm a mainly revolver fan type of guy but you can't deny the simplistic greatness of the 1911.

Keep bringing them guys, she's turning into more and more of a gunney as the days go on. Now she wants to learn to Re-load ammo after I told her that if we got her a .45 LC SA(she thinks they're pretty, she saw them on the history channel this morning while they had on one of the gun episodes) revolver we'd have to re-load for it to be economical and not insanely expensive if we couldn't find a .45 ACP convertible cylinder for it.

There's a gun show in september which should temper her gun hunger I think.

Let's see...

The S&W model 15 has the factory nickel finish on it. The grips on it are made from Sambar Stag from India...genuine Sambar Stag is a pricey item these days. We can't import Sambar Stag into the country anymore so lots of folks are now making "stag" grips from Elk antler.

The RIA has the factory finish on it as well...polished hard chrome so RIA says. I had a newer one that the box label stated nickel. The faux pearl grips on it actually came as the factory grips on the nickel Springfield Armory .38 Super also in the pics...it too has a factory nickel finish.

Here's The RIA with Water Buffalo horn grips...

And with some South of the border Mexican grips...

Far as I know, India stopped exporting Sambar stag antlers because locals were no longer waiting for them to fall off but had begun poaching. Has nothing to do with US import regulations.

I do, however, have a bit of an issue with the way some gripmakers are referring to elk antler grips as "stag". While the two critters are closely related genetically, the antlers of the Sambar stag are far superior to elk antler for making grips. They are much more dense, have less pith and have a much richer color to the bark. There should be no confusion as to what you're getting.

Used to be I didn't like nickel, but it has grown on me. Everyone should have at least one shiny barbeque gun.

Nickel S&W model 15-4 .38 Special. I bought this one shortly after my then 11 year old daughter saw a photo of a nickel model 15 and declared it the prettiest gun she'd ever seen.

Great pics guys.

I've got the girlfriend on the fence about a nickeled S&W 10 or 15 with a 4" barrel, a 1911 with a mirror like nickel bright finish or case coloring(some call it patina), or a stainless or bright nickel finish 686 with a 2.5" and an aftermarket grip.

I appreciate everyone's inputs. Now I want a nickel plated 1911 and nickel pated Model 15.
