I wrecked my cab a month ago, I was wearing at 4 oclock.
my back is still killing me, the lil snubby jammed into my back
during a wreck at freeway speeds.
I recommend finding a different way if you carry this way.(while driving)
NHP was kind of a pita in returning my gun, they dragged their feet and I had to raise my voice and insist on seeing a superior officer.
Some desk jockey had the nerve to tell me "It's for your own safety":fire:
Here I am, incapable of fighting a weak six year old girl because of a painful back injury and I'm safer without my snubby? My only carry piece?:barf:

lesson learned? if I get into another wreck the gun is going into a locked tool bag, so I can honestly say "I do not have it ON me"
and the gun is between the seats while driving now, I'm gonna have to rig some kind of holster for that.

Search car carry. I recall some innovative solutions to exactly this problem. It's winter time now, is it still hot in Reno gunsmith? Because a shoulder holster would be a good solution for the winter.

seat covers

gunsmith,

Years ago in Arizona, I used to buy seat covers for my new trucks to protect against wear & tear, and the sun. They were slip-on, and cinched to the seat. There were two long pouches along the front bottom where I could carry pistols and whatever. I don't know if they made a single seat model, as I always used a bench seat.

I'm sorry I don't recall the manufacturer, but I'm sure you can Google the concept.

Hope this helps, and I hope you fully recover!

Kingston Car Seat Holster from DeSantis. Fifty bucks.
It straps to the bottom cushion of the car seat. I think the holster itself can be removed from the strap, and used as a belt holster (but don't take my word for it).

I have one of those bench seat covers, I tore apart a fobus holster and pop riveted it to the front of the pocket on the seat cover. I also have one attached to my bed frame with drywall screws. Hell, you could silicone one to the wall of your shower if your really wanted to.

More importantly, scrimp and save for a back up carry piece in case something ever happens to your primary...

I have three handguns for carry in case one or more needs repair, I am covered.

I believe the Mitch Rosen Company produces a leather holster that is specifically designed for people who spend most of their carry time sitting in a vehicle.
The holster places the handgun crossdraw and horizontal on the weak side.

Putting the handgun anywhere but on your body is a bad idea because in an accident the weapon can become dislodged from seat and dashboard carry and go flying to who knows where.

Man gunsmith, you sure do seem to have an exciting life. Since I've been on here you've been drawn on once, had shots fired in your vicinity twice, and been in a cab wreck. I feel for ya.

In the thread where you took the gun away from a threatening drunk, you mentioned that the wreck occured at your girlfriend's house.

Does this mean that you were off duty, so your employer's ban (this thread) against you carrying a gun in his cab didn't apply?

not sure

In the thread where you took the gun away from a threatening drunk, you mentioned that the wreck occured at your girlfriend's house.

Negative sir. The wreck was in the start of Nov, I'm not sure I know what your talking about. Specify? (drunk chic gun grab was around the 23 Oct) and the cops never knew I was armed, to avoid a hassle.

Does this mean that you were off duty, so your employer's ban (this thread) against you carrying a gun in his cab didn't apply?

No sir, I was driving the cab, only since the summer and that hassle with the young liberal cop taking private matters into his own hand I started "leasing" as opposed to being an employee, lease operators are pretty much cowboys and can do what they like (within reason).

I was transported via ambulance on a back board and the cop asked me if I was packing and disarmed me before transportation, the hospital security (all unarmed) told the cop that no guns are allowed on hospital premises so he took it to the station evidence locker, that was on a friday night, it was closed for the weekend & monday columbus day, tuesday I was given the runaround finally on wednessday I started stomping my feet and demanding to talk to supervisors and they relented.
They somehow had confused me with some dui guy they didn't want to release guns to. ...they even said I had to prove I own it, fortunately I had the original reciept and a copy of thr dros and ca transfer.

DANG!, I wish I knew that I had a girlfriend! I've been kind of lonesome, you don't have her number,do you?

See a good Chiropractor about that back.

Seriously - get a good recommendation from a friend and go. It may take 2 or 3 visits before you start to feel the difference, but GO and have an open mind. Don't just pick one from the yellow pages unless you have no choice. Tell him on visit ONE that you are a no-nonsense kind of guy and you are interested ONLY in results. If you get any mealy-mouth then say good-bye and try somewhere else.

If you are not feeling improvement after a couple visits, you need a new recommendation. Note I said improvement and not CURE. Good chiropractic treatment will make a world of difference in how you feel and how long it takes to recover. But don't be surprised if it takes a few weeks to fully resolve things. I used to be skeptical, but I have tried it both ways and I know that especially if you are not a youngster, it can take a while. Still, it's way better than being in pain, having unnecessary surgery, or taking addictive painkillers.

Chiropractic is a credible treatment, but not all practitioners are created equal. Find one that works for you and stick it out.

Good luck!

the hospital security (all unarmed) told the cop that no guns are allowed on hospital premises so he took it to the station evidence locker,
Ah, that makes sense. Getting something out of impound is a royal pain in the rear. It doesn't matter how or why it got in there.

lesson learned? if I get into another wreck the gun is going into a locked tool bag, so I can honestly say "I do not have it ON me"
A lesson that should be learned: Always have a backup carry piece. If you ever did have to shoot someone it would be confiscated for sure (and then there's the possibility of someone wanting revenge). Even if it just broke, you'd have no CCW.

That business about "have to prove you own it" is complete bull.
They have absolutely no right to demand that you produce some piece of paper to prove you are the owner of an item taken from you at the scene of an auto accident.

It was in my possession when it was taken from me. That's all the proof I need.

What if it were a gold watch given to me by my dead uncle? Would I have to prove I owned that too? Are we gonna dig up Uncle Carl and ask him to write a gift receipt so some government employee will return the property he took from me???

I would have the municipal executive, the chief of police, and the officer who took it in court so fast their heads would spin if they refused to return my property.

What nonsense!

Wouldn't it be pretty easy to prove ownership? Doesn't Nevada require qualification with the pistol(s) you want to carry and subsequent list those weapons on your permit? Or do they not consider that proof of ownership?

My only carry piece?
You should qual with another handgun, if you have one. Even if it is less than adequate for CCW, it's better to have something than not, JIC. What would you do if you were forced to use your weapon, and it ended up in the evidence locker for a very long time?

If you don't have a problem with the gun actually having the gun on you, maybe a cross draw rig would be a good idea- accessible while driving, and the pistol will be oriented so as not to inflict injury in an accident.

My brother is a licensed MRT. According to the training materials used in the state certified training course he had to take for licensure, it's SOP for emergancy medical responders to inform LE that an individual is carrying (gun, knife, whatever), and to have LE get the weapon off the person.

Wow, sorry Smith. Hope you feel better soon, and hope you find yourself a better job, after reading all those other threads.

yes and no

to carry and subsequent list those weapons on your permit? Or do they not consider that proof of ownership?

not proof of ownership, they do not list serial numbers, I also qualified with another gun but sold it due to poor $$ decision making.

I'm deep in the hole right now, I know I need anther gun and hope I can soon.

Also the problem with taxi carry is different from personal car carry , I only had the car half a day, plus, criminals take cabs too so I had to keep it concealed.

The fun part about taxi in Reno is when I get tourist from NY/NJ I tell them how much more freedom we have here. One time I got a 100 dollar fare because I was armed , the Europeans I was driving made me their driver for a few hours.

Yes, I am very tired of the cabbie game! I will be seeking employment elsewhere.
I wish I could get hired to watch TV and read the news and harass liberals, I would be management material then.

My problem is I'm an old opinionated coot with no degree....

Oh yeah, the desk jockey was filling in for the evidence lady who was on time off or out of town on a case, the desk jockey was making up rules as she went along but when I insisted on talking to superior officers I finally got my snubby back.....minus ammo! (gold dot .357)

I feel you. I erroniously was under the impression that Nevada was like some other states, and listed S/N's and everything.

Best wishes to you. Hopefully you can get yourself into a safer trade sometime soon.

I hope you feel better man. I think it is pretty bogus that they took your carry piece and kept the ammo. It is shameful that they treat gun owners that way.

Have you considered driving a limo? Perhaps that could be anotehr option for you.
