My heart says CZ but my brain says Sig

Have to purchase something never tried out. Another leap of faith.

I love pulling out a CZ when everyone else is shooting Glocks, Sigs, etc. I have had 3 Sigs, a 226/9mm, 226/40, and 220/45. The only one left is the 220, a really excellent gun, but stays in the safe a lot.

I have 5 CZ's now; they all need cleaning . . . . . does this make sense Keg-Man?? :p

I'm a bit late to this party -- but it looks like every poster here should get at least a $20.00 coupon from CZ for some of their merchandise. :D

Seriously though, I've had great experiences with Sig products but I really look forward to trying a CZ sometime.

In typical THR fashion :D, I suggest buying the CZ first since it fits your hand better. I have pretty big hands myself, but I do find myself wishing my SIG P229R was a little slimmer and sat a little lower in my hand. However, you should still get the SIG anyway!

I used to own a CZ 75B duo tone in .40 S&W and a Sig P228; I currently own a Sig P225 and a P220 .45 ACP. If I had to choose one over the other, it would be the Sig, but that CZ was a fine piece. I was looking for a CZ 75B in 9mm a few months back but I came across a NIB hard chromed Browning High Power Practical that killed off my CZ urge in a hurry. Be assured that any of these choices in capable hands will chew a bullseye just fine! - skeeter_08

I own a CZ P-01. Also have shoot my son's Sig 239 on numerous occasions. I like the Sig trigger and I shoot it very well. However, the P-01 is very accurate and just a LOT more fun to shoot than the Sig. You need to understand the difference in the trigger pulls, however. The CZ trigger is quite different from the Sig, but I shoot the P-01 and Sig equally accurately.

The CZ P-01 is ABSOLUTELY a FINE pistol - I've got 1000+ rounds through it and absolutely no malfunctions or FTF/FTEs. My main purpose in owning the P-01 is for defense - not bullseye shooting, but it is a real joy at the range.

Swinging the CZ vote for almost 10 years!

However, you really can't go wrong with any 9mm or .40 CZ, or SIG for that
matter. I just have issues with the SIG decocker lever and also the fact the
newer guns are not made in Germany, anymore.

Best of luck with your eventual purchase.

Go with your heart... Your brain will thank you later.
I have both.
CZ is an excellent pistol.
SIG is having some quality issues right now.

Pros: Very ergonomic/feels great. Fit my small hands better than the Sig.

Really? I have had a CZ75 and sold it because it didn't fit my small hand. The grips were wide, and even with slim grips I found myslef reaching for that trigger which totally threw off my shots.

Im looking into a sig P226/P229 and also buying a short trigger for it (small hands, short finger)

I suppose I just read CZ75 Compact. (I was talking about the CZ75 Compact; NOT the P-01) Yes thats right, a compact was still to big for my hand. I suppose my hands are that small :(. Although there not to small for my Colt 1991.

I just took a look at the P-01, is it anymore compact than the 75 Compact?...7.2inch overall length for both so I suppose not. It still looks like it has that trigger thats a bit too far forward for my trigger finger with out reaching for it.

I have held a Sig P226 with the short trigger and it felt nice.

Yes, it was actually the P-01 I handled.

I assumed the "Compacts" were the same, since I thought I saw it used the same grips, but if that isn't the case, then I might have to go P-01 even though I would have preferred the one with the safety.

My brother has a 226. I don't have a problem with it, but the P-01 just felt better.

Well, I think you'll like the CZ better and it will be more accurate.

You say the people in your area know Sigs; that matters if either (a) you think you might sell it someday, or (b) care what they think if you're trying to impress. If you are not gonna sell it and are a man unto yourself, then go CZ. Otherwise, Sig. You'll like either.

Yes, the 75 compacts and P01 have the same exact grips.

I just shot my new P-01 for the first time on Sunday and am officially in love with it. I have always wanted a Sig, but they seem to sit too high in my hand and in my wallet. When I add the price of the Crimson Trace grips I'm going to buy eventually to the purchase price of my CZ it is about what the Sig would have cost me. Even after firing only 250 rounds the slide seems a bit easier to operate, so I wouldn't let that bother you too much. Oh and did I mention that the P-01 is just a sexy gun?

I own and carry a P01, and yes its the best pistol I have ever shot.

However,

CZ's main drawback for me is that the slide sits low in the frame. Leaves little area to grip, and combine that with a heavy recoil spring, a slippery, oily finish...

He is right about this. It IS the main drawback. you gotta man up when you rack the slide compared to a SIG.

I wonder if Pietro would be able to grasp a RAMI?

I think there is a CZ out there for everyone:)

I'm still a big fan of CZs, but got rid of my P-01 and 75B because I just couldn't shoot well with either. It was probably me, as everyone else seems to do well with them.
I also have a P229 that I like very much. I shoot better with it than either of the CZs.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'd like to try a CZ someday; everyone certainly raves about them.

Just the same, I suspect a lot of it has to do with their pricing compared to Browning, Sig or HK.

While I'm sure CZ's handguns are quality products, the fact remains: everyone loves a bargain. I know I do.

On the other hand, I already have a few excellent Belgian Browning Hi Powers from the late 1960's and early 1970's when Browning was at the top of their game.

I've got the original, so why buy a copy?

To me, that's like owning Rolls Royces but looking at a Ford or Chevy.

No thanks; I just don't have the time.

I've got more pistols/revolvers than I can shoot now. And can't get to the range nearly as much as I'd like.

My Sigs (P220 and P226) have been gold right out of the box. Accurate, reliable.

To the OP, IMHO, go with the Sig for customer service, parts, and quality. Sig Sauer has been around for many years and will continue to be around for many years to come.

Good luck with your decision! :)

We look forward to some feedback on your purchase.

CZ customer service is better than Sigs.

Sigs are not what they used to be. You are paying for the name not what is in the box these days. They have become a volume house whose only concern is moving metal.

Look at the last 6 products they have brought to market

Sig P238 Defective safeties
Sig 556 numerous problems from canted rails to poor finish
Sig mosquito for a long time would only feed premium 22 ammo
Sig P250 Cannot hold 17+1 and FTFs
Sig GSR took years to iron out
P200 ST extractor problems that were seen in standard stainless steel milled P220s

These days people are seeing frame gouging from burrs and the hardness of nitron.

Sigs are still good guns but they are far from the Rolls Royce of handguns these days.

Actually they are a lot like Rolls Royce. They are a name now. There is no real "rolls royce" there are still products that trade on the old name. Sig Sauer in Exter is the same. They have the name but it is not the same product.

There is nothing that I can do with my P228/P226/P225/P229 that I cannot do with my CZ P01 or CZ PCR.

My heart says Sig, my brain also says Sig.

The feel of it in my hand, the controls, reliability, everything is perfect. Yes, different people have different hands, but Sigs are actually perfect for me and that what matters. Different grips are available, so it'n not an issue.
Of course my Sig was a W.German made, I don't own any newly made Sig, but I'm pretty sure, aside from minor quality issues, I bet they are still 100% functional and reliable.

I plan on owning a CZ sometime soon, BTW, I just need to have one too, you know... ;)

I think Pietro Beretta makes a good point about the CZ75 for the small-handed. The grip-frame for the whole family is one of the best around even for those with small hands, but the reach to the controls differs quite a bit between the different models. The standard trigger in double action is quite a reach and the standard thumb safety is not nearly as easy to reach as the the thumb safety on a 1911 or Hi-Power. However, the curved trigger on the P-01 and some of the newer models and the decocker lever on those so equipped, and the thumb safety on the single action models is much easier to reach for the folks with small hands. However, I find Sig grips to be quite "chuncky".

A buddy of mine just got done with a similar problem. He just got is CCW permit. Me and a few friends have been taking him to the range and shooting all our pistols to see what he liked. He narrow down to a .45. He shot a few 1911's, a CZ97, S&W 4566, S&W99, Glock 20 and SIG P220. He just bid on a West German SIG P220:)

In your situation, I really dont think there is a bad choice. If it were me (I own both SIGs and CZs) I would get the P229.

Coltman, would you care to explain what you mean about them being copies? Is it just because they are a 9mm that came after the BHP? Or do you know something that I don't?

Edit: oh and I own a 75 and I love it, I don't have large hands and it fits my hand like a glove. I haven't had one failure in the near 1000 rounds I've put through it. In addition I've found it to have really settled in and don't find it to be stiff at all. Easy to take down, easy to clean, controls are easy to reach. Honestly I can't say enough good things about my CZ. It was my first gun, and honestly I couldn't have gotten any luckier.

i own an older sig 229 .40. so far it has been the most accurate out of the box handgun that i have owned. however, there is something about the cz p-01 that draws me to it. i will eventually have one. i will decide which one is more accurate for me at the juncture.
