I drew this a couple weeks ago, but never finished the grips. I had planned to do checkering on them, but decided that I liked it the way it is.

I just figured I'd share it with you guys.

check my website to get the joke

Hello. E X T R E M E L Y nice. I couldn't draw a picture like that to save my soul.

Best.

That is the ULTIMATE drawing! I love it, I FEAR it, I want it!

Seriously, that's beautiful. I've got a pic of an M14 in E-2 config. Wanna take a shot at that?

Looks nice! :) I personally don't do much in regard to rendering, and I think trying to make something that "clean" looking would drive me crazy!

Wish there was a bit more figure-ground interaction but it's a much prettier gun than I've ever drawn. Hmm...giving me ideas for the next assignment in my art class now. (did you use pencils, or a graphite stick?)

fumegator

The BHP you have there is the BEST of what you've posted in the other thread you linked. Excellent work. Now, challenge yourself with a nice S&W wheelgun.:D

Thefumegator,

That's really good-

I have just picked up the vine charcoal for the first time in years. I'm taking a drawing 2 class at the university and I'm really enjoying it. I was planing on make sketches a weekly thing once this class is over and I think guns would make a great model, no worries about them moving in the middle of a pose or complaining that there leg is falling asleep. I think I'll make my Steyr M40 my first firearm drawing. I'll post it when I get it done.

I just used a plain old no.2 pencil, it was all I had on hand. I wish I could find some of my darker ones...

Cool! I can't wait to see it. Guns are pretty darn good subjects for drawings, like you said, and they have such beautiful shape, light, and shadow.

Thanks for all of your support. I guess a nice S&W Revolver will have to be my next one. :D

Wes

EDIT: I just looked at that other thread... I can't believe I posted some of those. That CZ wasn't to my usual "sharing standards." Ah, well. The most you can hope for is to get better as you get older.

But still --

fume ... nice pic .... you have a flair for sketching. I used to enjoy doing that and had a whole set of pencils ... right up to #6 soft .... but never tried doing a gun. Hmmm ... might be something to try!

Indeed .. get a nice model like an N frame and .. get drawing!!

Very good.

One thing I noticed from this pic and the ones in your other thread that the BHP's are allways the best rendered.

Others, like the CZ, and the 1911 have some minor problems with perspective and proportion etc., but the BHP's are all flawless.

Is it because you have some sub-concious affinity for the BHP, or are the BHP drawings just your later work?

No, actually the drawings were all posted in the order I drew them.

I think the BHPs are probably just better because that's what I know best, since I have 2 of them. Yeah, I have an affinity for them too. :D

Thanks for all of the kind words. I'll start another one today... Either a S&W or a Makarov... depending on what pictures I can scrounge up. ;)

Okay boys and girls, I've just realized that I left a small detail off of the pic. It has been corrected on my original, but special commendations will go to the gearhead that recognizes what's missing! :D

BTW, I drew another one yesterday of a J-frame, but I am waiting for the owner to OK it before I post it. I think it turned out well.

If I may be so bold as to say...

DON'T! :)

Technology stunts creativity (unless you're into creative design ;) ) Some of the best work I've personally done involved one or two of the following:
Fine-tip liquid ink pen
Mechanical #2 pencil (Bics have the BEST erasers)
Half-burned sticks
Cigarette ash (although the smell is... displeasing) :barf:
Dirt
Beer
and yes... *sigh* fouling.

To keep this gun-related, I'm thinking of painting a Kalashnikov, actual size... :D
