I just wanted to share my latest Gunbroker find. I was looking for an early S&W 67 just because I wanted a 4" .38 spl. and the 67 was at the top of my list. I didn't mind one that had some battle scars since I enjoy fixing them up. This one is a Yolo County, CA sheriff turn in and I think I bought it right. The seller did what I think every good seller should do and rated it conservatively. It was in better condition physically than I expected. Refinishing the grips and minor polishing will make this beauty look great. Mechanically, it's outstanding. There can't be many rounds down the pipe. The trigger pull is a dream. Like butter and 3.42# (SA of course). Even though a W/O black rear sight and red ramp front is a better set up I was kinda wanting the stainless. I think it's cool. The serial dates it to 1972. This shot is just the way I received it.

Yes, the serial is a 3k which should date it to 1972, the first year. Not too shabby for a 41 year old revolver. The left side has "Property of Yolo County Sheriff #55" stamped on it. I don't see this as being a collector but a fun shooter. Polishing her up to get rid of the smudges and scratches and refinishing the grips should really pretty it up real nice.

That is going to be a great shooter, and the markings have some cool factor. Nice.

Way to go with an great buy on a super S&W revolver. Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

Thanks guys. I've never been one for the extra stampings an om guns but it does add some 'cool' factor to it. I like the way they did it with one stamp for the whole thing instead of individual letter punches. Of course I did have to find out where Yolo County was and it's just west of Sacramento. It's probably gone through a couple of owners since it was a duty gun but wouldn't it be cool if I could find the person #55 was issued to?

If yours shoots as good as mine,,,

If yours shoots as good as mine,,,
You have bought an excellent revolver.

Mine is marked DPR on the left side,,,
The seller had no idea what that meant,,,
Many Internet searches came up with nothing.

But it doesn't matter,,,
It's an excellent shooting gun,,,
They didn't call it Combat Masterpiece for nothing.

Nice find my friend,,,

You have a fine looking Model 67(No dash#)there! These are excellent .38 Special revolvers! I'm very fond of these myself. I can confirm your M-67 to be first year production(1972)which is the same for my NIB M-67(No dash#)pictured below!:

Beautiful Slick6. If the serial# accurately indicates the production date mine was close behind yours. 3k65011
Kernel, I'd have to agree with you. I had some range time yesterday. What a great shooter!! I'm not real fond of the grips (a bit small). I also am not to fond of the target grips (a bit too large). So, I'm in the hunt for the right aftermarket. I've got my eyes on some now.

My first service sidearm was an agency-issued M67. I don't know when it was made (it was issued to me in 1987) but it was definitely old enough to have the firing pin on the hammer. That much I remember.

What I also remember is that I was able to shoot that gun very well. I used it in some LE competition shoots, and was well able to hold my own with it against many other guys with their personally-owned, supposedly-tuned guns.

Good luck with it, and enjoy!
