I guess I missed buy a gun day by a day, but I guess thats alright.

I found a pawn shop in Snellville (city NE (more E than N) of Atlanta, Hilltop Pawn) that had two Smith and Wesson 686-3 2.5" barreled guns for $395 each. Fortunately, neither had the locking system which is a huge plus. I waited a week and went back in this morning with cash to see what kind of deal we could make. After choosing the better of the two, the other one had a couple cosmetic blemishes on the grips, I informed the gentleman helping me I was interested in taking a gun home and that I had cash. He said he would part with the one I wanted for $350 which I agreed to.

So I am now the proud owner of a S&W model 686-3 with beautiful S&W wood grips.

For anyone else in GA, the other Smith they had was pretty nice too. I would definately recommend doing business with this pawn shop. Prices were fair and were negotiable for Cash. Just how a pawn shop should operate. IM me if you'd like the address or the number.

NICE! I owned one once upon a time and it's a really nice piece. It's on my list to buy again someday.

Does yours have the round butt and finger grooved wood grips? Where the pictures!?

Yeah, the grips do have the round butt with the finger grooves. I am really becoming a revolver guy.

I wish I could post pics, but I don't have a digital camera. Every time I get enough money for a digital camera, I buy a gun. I guess its a matter of priorities.

Hello Petrel. You picked a nice one for sure.I got a 686-1 2 1/2" about a month ago and its really great to shoot . I think the round butt with the sw wood grips feel so comfortable that I will never bother going to a rubber grip.I paid more for Mine than you did.Its seems the prices on some of the older ones are starting to climb.Your -3 should already have the "M " mod done to it so your good to go ..Best of luck with it .

586-M-Stamp

Hello:
The-M-Mod only followed the Carbon blued & Nickel cousin. This was in the early 80's and it was not and issue with any stainless model's I am aware of. Even if you do buy a 586 without the-M-stamp it is not a big deal as S&W will pay the freight both way's and fix the headspace problem that it was"FREE". I have one that has the problem and I reload my own so over sink the primer's and it has never been and issue.. Regards, Hammerdown.
