My new ammo storage solution

That's a neat idea and it looks really great. Maybe even better than the chrome ones. I was thinking about the old gym locker idea myself. Nice boots and good luck with the adoption.

Very nice! I'm disturbed you have to suspend your 2A rights to adopt. Can't say I'm surprised though.

There actually are two small holes in the back with plastic caps on them. I wondered what those are for.

This is off topic, but how in the heck do I include a quote in the box when responding to a post? I have tried several things but am obviously missing something. Please help!

BTW, thanks for the feedback. Nice to see some others have used this same box for the same purpose. I did not realize there so many Tony Lama fans! I used to be a Justin guy, but about 14 years ago I gave a pair of TLs a try because the Justins I liked were out of stock, and I have never looked back.

I'm assuming you mean like this...^^

Just Cut and Paste whatever you want to quote, then when you are in the "POST REPLY" paste it back in , highlight it (like you are going to C & P again), and go up to the top and click on the little icon that looks like the bubbles you see in the cartoons.

Nice idea! Good luck!

Another way is to click on the quill and paper icon in the lower right corner of the post. Type in your answer, click "Quote message in reply?" under the options, and post your reply. To edit things from the original quote, click edit response after it is posted.

Awesome set up!

A while back, I broke down and bought one of these just for the ammo, spare mags, holsters, choke tubes and other little accessories because those things take up too much space in the gun safe.

Nice choice for ammo storage. There's a company that offers a locking solution for old ammo boxes. You have to drill a hole, but they can be made to lock.

I normally use ammo boxes just so I can have a "grab and go" supply. I've got 1000 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 split up over 2 .30 caliber ammo cans. Each holds exactly 500 rounds in 20-round boxes, with no room to spare.

I have to provide make, model, serial numbers for every gun.
I have to say, this sounds incredibly intrusive. I can understand requring things be locked up in the house to protect the children, but how does having all that information make the children any safer?

In any case, I applaud your desire to adopt, and admire how hard you are willing to work to meet the seemingly arbitrary requirements imposed on you to do that.

Good luck on the fostering and adoption. I wouldn't think that carrying on your person in the house would be an issue since you'd be in direct control of it. However, I don't know Texas law.

Good way to go about it. I doubt I would have thought of it!

I also want to thank you for the adoption. Kids need all the help they can get, and I support anyone that is responsible enough to curb themselves on the matter and get one out of the mostly uncaring system.

Nice storage unit! My most sincere compliments on the desire to adopt. I was adopted in 1939 and I got a set of parents who were the absolute best in the world! Your willingness to subject yourselves to a significant infringement on your personel space/rights shows how committed you both are in your desire to adopt. I wish you the best of luck in the comming years with your new family.

I just love all kinds of boxes, wooden, metal, locking, not lockable. That's a great idea. I have a 14 gun stack-on that I lie flat in my closet, bolted to the wall and floor as it takes up less space. We had a daycare here in NY at one time, this was before I began collecting, and they asked about firearms. It's really great that you and your wife carry. I wonder what they do with the registration type info once the children are officially adopted. Good luck.

In Alaska, I think each kid comes with a gun.... ~~LOL!!~~
Every american s/b issued a rifle at birth.

Nice looking solution. I use a Stanley "fat boy" cabinet that locks but doesnt seal out moisture for short term storage and a horizontal job box for long term. I do like your door on the front for easy access since stuff will always get piled on top eventually.

Here in Wisconsin, the adoption agency I worked with just treated guns as annother part of the home inspection. Just like having child locks on cupboards with cleaning supplies, electrical outlet covers, kitchen knives up high, etc.

Good friend of mine does foster care for the state and he's got guns locked up in RSC's, and a reloading room set up in the basement. No problems, just need reasonable precautions to keep them away from little hands.

Wouldn't worry too much about it if you are looking at adopting.

I was thinking some type of material from the construction trade (insulation??) could be installed on the interior walls of the box to make it more fire-resistant. Glad you mentioned about the venting, it never occurred to me.
