Yeah, to me .44mag is the only caliber I will ever need. Properly loaded and accurately fired, it will take down any critter that walks on 4 legs...and already has! Documented by many individuals. One powerful round.

Course, if you have a Cape Buffalo or an African lion charging you it would be good to have a .475 Linebaugh or better...but I live in Texas and my .44 is king here. :)

I'm with you friend. I only load 310 gr. Oregon Trail True Shot Bullets. Will take any critter on the planet with proper shot placement. .44 Specials will take care of any other shooting needs I have.

Awesome gun and beautiful as I stated in my earlier post, but just wondering. For all the $$$$ you have into it could you have gotten a Freedom Arms 44 Mag?

Yup. Thought about that too. Total cost of the revolver was about 2 grand. But then again, it shoots one, ragged hole group at 25 yds--bout the same as a FA revolver. Plus its much more handsome than a FA. :)

Freedom Arms ain't everything to everybody. I've got four custom Rugers with more on the horizon and no plans to acquire a Freedom Arms in the foreseeable future. Lots of folks find the Bisley configuration to be more comfortable and a Ruger can be built any way you like. The FA guns, while spectacular in their own right, are still factory guns with limited options.

Hey CraigC,

I would like to see pics of those custom Rugers of yours, and maybe a little caption on who did the jobs? Thanks.

BTW,

I have some brand-new Ruger factory SBH left-over parts for sale. Basically almost every blued part of the gun was replaced. 5-1/2" bbl, grip frame, almost all internal parts.

Let me know if some of you smithically inclined fellas are interested in a good deal.

Alrighty!

This one started life as a beater 6½" Ruger flat-top .357Mag. Jim Stroh rechambered the cylinder to .44Spl, installed a new premium barrel (PacNor or Douglas, don't remember), his beautiful custom front sight, a cylinder bushing, blackpowder bevel on the cylinder, custom basepin, action job, 2lb trigger, matte hard chrome finish and was originally fitted with BluMagnum smooth stags. It has since been restocked in antique paper micarta by CLC. It is one of my favorite sixguns. It is a fine shooter and more consistently accurate than any other I own.

This one was a shorty Super Blackhawk .44 that I converted to a Bisley. I then sent it to David Clements for his custom front sight, Bowen target rear, warning removal, action job, freewheel, roundbutt, lanyard ring, #5 basepin, crescent ejector and stocked in american holly by CLC. It's another favorite and gets used more often than most. It was a a fine shooter out of the box and groups into 2"@50yds. Nothing relating to accuracy was altered on this sixgun.

This one was a regular 7½" Bisley .44Mag that David Clements fully accurized and installed his custom front sight, recut the crown, barrel set back and the forcing cone recut, bushed cylinder, minimum headspace, freewheeled cylinder, action job, #5 basepin, checkered ejector, warning removal, Turnbull case colors on the frame, hammer and trigger and reblued the rest. These are old grips and it has since been restocked in fancy black walnut by CLC. Another 2"@50yd shooter.

This one was part of a special deal the members of Sixgunner.com put together about ten years ago with special group pricing through Lipsey's, David Clements and Lett Grips. Started life as a 5½" Bisley Vaquero .45Colt. It was originally fully tuned and accurized, the warning removed, fitted with a dovetail front sight and BluMagnum ivory micarta. I later sent it back to Clements to shorten the barrel to 4½", install his pre-war S&W style adjustable rear sight, custom post front sight, blackpowder bevel, roundbutt and Bowen lanyard ring. Much happier with this configuration but I'll eventually have CLC fit it with some antique paper micarta like the flat-top above.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful gun with us.. you too CraigC..

I like the pictures of the custom single action revolvers.

Beautiful, practical revolvers Craig. Thanks for taking the time to detail each one. I'm sure I'll go back and look at them again--and wipe the drool off that seeps out of the corner of my mouth--again.

The 44 Special flattops are nice, I was happy when Lipsey had them brought back with the old grip frame. This one had a few mods done, book removed from the barrel, steel ejector rod housing, sights, and all surface mated to each other. Turnbull then did the bluing and case colors.

When I get around to it this 1st year production .45 convertible will go out to Turnbull as well. This gun was my Christmas present the year I turned 14.
