Yesterday I picked up a 1958 vintage Ithaca 37 with a 28" fiber beaded Mod choked barrel for $175.

It's got a lot of handling marks and a few "kisses" on the stock but it runs great, it's had a lot of rounds through it {former trap gun} and cycling it literally takes about as much effort as moving a computer mouse back and forth the same distance.

The former owner reported that it had a problem with dumping some brands of ammo out of the magazine when you cycle it, and I had the same problem with the dummy rounds I put through it but I can't get it to do it again after I cleaned and lubed it.

How does it shoot? Great! I'm not crazy about the stock though, it seems to fit different than those of the 37s I've shot in the past and it measures close to a 15 inch LOP including the recoil pad, which I ditched.

All in all this about as good as pump gunning gets and my 870 is dangerously close to safe queen status. Sorry no pics as I'm out and about without a camera.

I promise I'll have pics up tomorrow!

I'll take that pad off your hands.

It's a Pachmeyr White Line, not a Sunburst, and it's only in fair condition.

Anyway I'll going to have to get another stock, this ones' just too straight, long, heavy and slick. A better recoil pad would help too, although I might just run my small Limbsaver slip-on if it's good fit with my new stock after its been cut down.

I'm loving the control layout, I haven't shot one of these guns in a long time and I forgot how well the controls work for me, better than any other pump I've tried.

I like how easy it load, currently I can still load my 870 faster but once I get more used to to it, along with running a shorter stock and a metal mag follower {less friction}, it'll go like lightning.

I'm biased....

that short barrel, the sultry black drab, I would choose the .870 and put the classic in the safe.:D

That Ithaca shoots and carries better though, and really fills a different role. I still want an evil short barreled 37 for hiking/zombie defence ASAP.
