Just picked it up this morning but I didnt have the chance to shoot it so some other time. I have shot AK's before though. This thing is beautiful. I love it.

But there is a story..
I went to my gun store's online store and saw the Century Arms WASR-10 and the price looked good and I knew I would have to refinish the wood, polish the charging handle (liked the look), and fix the trigger slap. So I looked all that up and figured out how to do it and decided I could and then I read how to install the Tapco G2 trigger and I decided that, that would be challenging. Really challenging. So that steered me away from it but not enough to think about the Lancaster. Later that day.. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the Lancaster and fell in love with that wood and the over all perfect look. More search and people love these and say the WASR < Lancaster.
So I finally went to the gun club with $500 in my hand still thinking of the Century since the Landaster was $900 (sorry i didn't mention earlier). I get in and tell the guy and he hands me one off the wall. Felt terrible, the wood was not sealed, lots of bumps and dents, the metal was terrible scratched and used. I saw that beautiful russian red wood and I had hold it.
Immediately I fell in love. Beautiful, brand new, great feel. Then it came to me that I wouldnt have to do any of the trigger work or worry about magazine wobble or anything. So I bought it. Paid the rest on the credit card.

Results..

Lancaster makes great AKs. $900 is a bit pricey, but I guess post-election that may be the norm for something better than a $600 WASR. I got a Lancaster Polish UF with a 1.6mm receiver a few years ago new for $750.

Go get some rounds thru it and start building up a supply of mags and ammo.

The Tapco mags aren't the greatest either. The only plastic mags that are worth anything are the Bulgarian waffle pattern mags. See this .pdf to see where the Circle 10 waffles have steel: http://www.k-var.com/shop/downloads.php

Video of plastic mag fail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQalsPMe3tY

Surplus commie steel mags go for about $14-$15 each and are as tough as John Wayne. BSW

well do you think the metal ones would be better?

Link me to where I can buy. Preferably from a reputable online store.

Thanks guys

This is about the best you can do right now:

http://www.classicarms.us/accessories.htm has Hungarian 20 round mags as well as 2 grades of steel 30 round mag. Prices are higher at $18 a piece for the excellent grade.

I got my stash from http://www.44mag.com/products.asp?dept=1342 They do free shipping (USPS Priority Mail) on orders of $200 or more and mags get heavy fast.

I've had a couple of the Rommy mags. They work (except for the one with the huge dent in it) but the finish and weld quality was iffy even by the vodka fueled standards of Eastern Bloc manufacturing. BSW

Excellent camera work. Really shows the beauty of the gun.

HD Youtube should be mandatory for all posts showing a new gun.

Thought about them too! Im not planning on spending $200 on mags. EEK thats a lot.

Thanks. Right now I have another vid uploading but it takes a little while for it to process into HD.
I'll get some HD shooting vids later. Other than that if you guys have any ideas for a vid, tell me and I'll do them.
Im going to make a couple for my 1911 and SW 637.
Might as well throw in the GSG lol

I bought some of those mags from AIM, as well as the old "chinese style" mags they had. I like them both a lot, especially the chinese style mags.

I have some 20 & 30 rd Hungarian mags I got from another place, and they are great too.

I bought A Tapco mag before I replaced the gas piston and needed USA mags, and I have no complaints. I also bought two Pro Mag 20 rounders for playing at the range, but they are not as nice, IMHO, as the Tapco mag. The steel mags are the best as far as I am concerned, but what do I know.

Nice AK andyffer.

Do you drive around like that? Or were you trying to make some hybrid BMW/AK porn? :D

You could obviously make your WASR as pretty as mine as far as wood and polished charging handle go but as for the receiver maybe get a new finish.

I liked the Lancaster over the Century because it had everything that I wanted to do to the Century already on it. It was ready to go to my likings that day without me having to mod at all.

That's a very pretty AK. I got my first ever AK style gun, a WASR 10/63 from classicarms (for $449). I kinda like the rough look. I think it gives it "character" I think some even call it "patina" It's been 100% so I'm very happy. I didn't think the WASR 10/63's are half as bad as people say they are.

My first choice though would be a Lancaster or one of the AK's from Arizona Respose. He makes nice stuff..

Looks good. I also purchased a Lancaster a year and a half ago. The rifle is very well built.

It was a Romey G kit with Tapco trigger but selected to build on a 1.6mm reciever added the UTG quad rail handguard and 6 posistion stock with FAL pistol grip. Also had the side scope rail installed. The DuraCoat finish is so much nicer than any any previous AKM I've ever owned.

The best part is that it shoots very well for an AK and has been 100% reliable after break in (and after discovering a bad mag).

STEEL MAGAZINES are your friend!
