My "New" M1917 S&W

Some Pictures of my new M1917 .45ACP S&W. Also some pictures of a couple of targets I shot today B.B. (Before beer eh) 2.5" group at 15 yards with my hand loaded 200g SWC load I usually shoot in my SA Loaded 1911 at steel matches. The other is a 1.5" group at 7 yards with Speer Lawman.

Don't laugh too much at the gun. I have new grips on the way and only paid $250.00 for it last week.

don't see any thing funny look like a nice gun and grips are easy fix.I wish mine could talk I inhereted it from alcoholic step-grandfather story I got was his first wifes father(local banker) got it for colateral and ended up giving it to him.anyway it was made in 1918 and by all accounts was probly there in the big one and it has a notch cut in grip panel

Very cool you have have an M1917, no matter how you got it. It has a notch in the grips, waaaay cool. Something very life affirming about having a gun that may have ended a life for a good cause way back when.

Nice gun. Every time I see a pic of a model 17 I could kick myself for all the ones for sale, not all that many years ago, for paltry sums compared to today's prices . Not junk guns but good examples like your's. Just beginning to have an interest in handguns back then, I was too eat up with the lure of somewhat newer revolvers and those newfangled autos to appreciate them.

They're nice guns. Easier to shoot fast than a 625 IMO. The lighter barrel is easier to correct in mid swing than a full lug one.

I have a great old gun similar to yours. Its a Brazilian 1937 which has the same frame.

Good news on the wood grips, an outfit called N.C. Ordnance, www.gungrip.com can fix you up with some fine S&W US Army Model 1917 walnut reproduction grips...exactly made like the originals. $65.

They will look much like my gun which has the original 1917 grips I got off a guy in Anchorage.

A couple of my favorite shooters...a 1937 Brazillian Contract, and a aftermarket nickled 1917. I didn't nickle it so no fussing at me please!

C&L, that is the coolest 1917 I've seen in a long time, a beauty sir. How is it as a shooter.

Some old time Texas lawman would confiscate that BBQ gun for sure.

However, some full moon clips are in order.

Shoots great. The gun appears to have been in excellent condition prior to being nickled. It was nickled right...extractor, trigger and hammer were not nickled, all roll marks are still there. It also has a low serial # 1115.

Got some full moon clips too...

Anybody ever seen any 1/4 moon clips?

I've got a buddy who has 25 of them, but he doesn't remember where he got them, and isn't turning loose of any!

I've got 1/2 and Full moon, but those 1/4 are SOOO nice, and carry well.

Man, I love those old timers, sure glad I got a few.

The new crap they are making is not my bag.
