Just picked this rifle up from a buddy, and it's in pretty good shape, very good actually for a local gun that's been hunted with.
Looks to be 700 ADL in .243Win
There are nicks and dings in the barrel, and the finish is worn but not horribly. The barrel has sort of wierd symmetrical twist marks from the chamber to about 1/2 way down, mostly just a lightening in the finish, but not something I've ever seen(they are all the way around). Almost looks like shadows of hammer forging, which remington never did as far as I know, and this dosent look right for that even. Bores has minor pitting, but much less than MOST of the older guns I've worked on.
The receiver is in great shape, good bluing, and even has the holes for a receiver sight. The rifle still had it's bolt locking trigger/safety, which I considered keeping on there. But there was some grit in the pull and I had a shinny new xmark pro sitting here so on it went. Triggers set at 2.5lbs, I need to get a new adjustment screw for the trigger spring, and that will be used to adjust it to the 3lbs I like.
It also has an aluminum trigger guard, my 90s ADL was steel.
The stock was changed to a synthetic at some point, this looks like one of the '90s style like I had on my 99 ADL. It was scratched and dinged and had white paint on it so it got a quick sanding and painting. I may do a camo scheme later, if I ever get around to it.
I topped with with a 3-9x42 s&w scope I've had laying around for a while, these we're supposedly made by Hakko in Japan.
All and all I'm pretty stoked with the rifle. I shot it 9 times (all the old .243 ammo i had laying around) yesterday. Sighted in 2, and it put the rest into about 1.5" at the 90 some of yards I was shooting.
The one thing I'm curious about (and have never been before), is the date of manufacture. The barrel code RZ, suggest it was made in 75, but the serial number doesn't have a prefix, which supposedly started in 68....if anyone has an idea why that would be Im all ears.
Anyway here's pictures.
