Over the years Smith & Wesson's 1905 Hand Ejector / Military & Police ahs been offered in barrel lengths of 2", 3", 4" 5", 6" and 6 1/2 inches - although not all of those lengths were offered at the same time. Those with 2 inch barrels were relatively rare during the late 1940's and are prized as collectors items.
The fixed sights were usually regulated for the standard 158 grain lead round-nose police load that was "standard" during most of its production.
Really cute little gem! Around 1971-72, I had a Smith
and Wesson model 15 with a 2" barrel and adjustable
sight's. Kind'a liked it cause it always had that big city
"detective look" to it. I purchased it NIB for $97.50, out
the door!
Nice picture of my gun! Mine is a late 70's Mod. 10, 2" w/ Tyler Grip. Using 158 gr. ammo, it's dead on. And, it's as reliable as a brick, but MUCh more effective. Great choice, IMHO. Shoot well and enjoy.
Nice pic! My dealer had this beauty several years back and I grabbed it up. Not in as good condition as yours but is has some special meaning. It was shipped in Aug 1949, the month before I was born.
Its funny I was just at the range today shooting that same exact S&W Model 10 Snubbie my friend had just received at New Year Eve from his girlfriend as a gift it was her fathers .It shot great, nice action and a pinned barrel.
I saw a 2" model 12 at the gunshow today with the standard grips and it felt great in my hand! I almost allways need something to fill the area behind the trigger gaurd but this gun felt good without it.
I would have been tempted to get it but the price was a little steep for the condition. He wanted $230.00 for it but it was in about NRA very good. I have seen bettter ones online for less.
The biggest problem with the Model 12s is that the grip frame is slightly thinner than the standard K-frames, meaning that getting a good fit with grips can be a real problem.
Here's my Model of 1905, 4th change from c.1915.
The second picture shows the great wood and excellent fit.

(BTW, sometimes photoisland links don't work the first time the page loads, and the pic will "X" out, but if you right-click and "Show Picture" it usually goes.)
