Ive got one in 20ga. Killed a good few ducks with it last season. And its now my Chukar gun for next season. They take a beating and keep on chucking the shells with no problems.

I became Distinguished Expert in Trap with one that eventually looked just like that, finally shooting an Improved Modified choke and the addition of a very small bead in the middle of the rib.

I think you did good. I paid something like 196.00 with tax & everything for my model 500 about 14 or 15 years ago. It's just like yours except not ported. I'm suprised they can still be found around that price point.

If the gun fits you properly, AND you can work the action fast and accurately for those doubles, you'll be just fine. As folks get better with practice, many tend to move onto a semi or over-under for a smooth second shot in addition to the added weight that helps reduce recoil. Shoot the lightest target loads in it and you should be able to shoot all day.

Good luck!

Mossbergs in walnut and blue configuration are nice field grade shotguns.
I'm gettin' the itch to get another Mossberg but I'm lookng for one that's used as I like guns with some "character marks " and a little wear on them.:)
