Well, well, well, Ship, I remember posting on Walther Forums I bought an M11 and you said something like you didn't think you shot Sigs well, or something to that effect. :) Nice purchases. I used to own both of those guns, sold em off as one day I decided I only wanted handguns I felt I could carry easily.

Hope they're treating you well.

I did find this old beaten up true P228 last month for a steal of a price. Knew a guy who had to have one and flipped it pretty quickly.

Thanks.

I actually bought the 226 a couple of weeks ago. I only like the version with the E2 grip, otherwise the grip is too fat for my hands. Regular grips on a 226 makes the gun fatter than a 92FS in my hands. As for the M11A1 - I picked one up again, and the smaller grip size feels perfect.

I haven't shot the M11A1 yet. We'll see later this week.

As for the 226 vs the 92FS. I still prefer the feel of the 92FS grip slightly. I also like the 92FS trigger a bit more.

I will say that I can double tap with the 226 a tony bit better than the 92FS. The 2nd rapid fire shot is closer to the first for me with the 226. But, the 92FS will always be my favorite.

Same story for me, M11 grip just worked better for me. The SRT trigger in the M11 makes for some fun double taps.. :)

Sad to say, and hard to believe for me is my massive Sig collection is down to just....one. A P239 in .357 Sig. :(

Well. My beretta collection is down to three 92s. But, I won't go any lower. Not selling anymore.

Triggers....

The new SIG P series triggers look thinner & weaker.
:uhoh:
How do those compare to the older thicker versions?
I've heard a few - reviews on websites but haven't shot any of the newer series SIGs yet.

That M11-A1 is one of my favorite current production semiautomatics, it really is an improved P228. Now, I'm getting ready to replace the P228 I stupidly sold off a few years back, with one of two nice P228 examples I found in a gunstore over the weekend. The P228 is probably the best shooting compact 9mm I've ever tried out or owned outright, and the P6 / P225 is right behind it!

And here we were told that a wheel o' sigs wasn't gonna happen......seems like you are off to a good start. Only reason why I haven't picked up a sig is I can't find one to try to shoot, which is probably a good thing for my wallet. Congrats on a nice looking pistol.

The M11 is essentially an improved P229, not 228.

I'm stunned, as I'm sure are the "pizza guns".

It's a lot more interesting than a bunch of Beretta's, but now all the mags don't work with all the guns.

I know you've spent some 1911 time in the past, how's the SIG slide release work with a high thumbs grip for you. SIG makes a nice gun, but as primarily a 1911 shooter, I always have trouble with that slide release position.

Well, with the Sig 226, I had issues with the slide release not always staying open when the mag runs dry because of my thumbs. When I was more careful, I didn't have an issue.

However, I may just not worry about it. I know some other people who stated they always have this issue when shooting a Sig.

The M11A1 grip is a little different than the E2. There is like a "bump" to the grip around the slide lock area. I am curious to see if this keeps me from hitting the slide lock without having to change my grip

Well, I got to shoot the gun now. I like it a lot. A lot a lot :)

It seems to be more of the combat sight picture, where you cover the target with the front sight. My 226 is a 6 o'clock hold, for some reason (and my only gun like that). This M11A1 matches the sight picture of my other guns.

Gun worked 100%. Shorter sight radius does take a little more effort to hit at the longer ranges. But, I did well. Recoil isn't bad.

And, believe it or not, I didn't have that issue with my thumb hitting the slide stop on the M11A1 like I did with my 226 with the E2 grip. One of the things that pushed me to the M11A1 over the 229 with an E2 grip was as small raised area on the upper left grip. Right where your thumbs go. It seems to push your hand a little further away from the slide stop.

I suspected this might solve that issue for me at the gun store - and after shooting it, i was right. So, that was nice. The grip circumference seems to be thinner on the M11A1 than it is on a standard 226. On a 226, I can't leave normal factory grips on otherwise the grip gets too fat for my hands. Hence my like for the E2 grip.

But on the M11A1, it's fine. And, the factory grips are also rough enough that I needn't worry about rubber grips either. Good deal!

Now, while shooting I tried some two handed and 1 handed double taps. I think I did the best I have ever done with it compared to any other handgun. It does take some concentration - but I was actually able to put some of the second shots in the central circle area. And even when it widened up, at it's worst it was equal to usually the best I can do with other guns.

Also - I am a HUGE DA/SA gun fan. So, at the gun store, I knew I would like this gun if it just worked 100%. And it did, of course. I think if I didn't have my Shield as my carry gun, I'd be tempted to carry this thing. It is obviously heavier than the Shield, though. On my bathroom scale, my Shield is 1.6 lbs loaded. The Sig M11A1 is 2.4 lbs. The Sig's trigger is preferential, but the extra weight would be noticeable when I usually carry my Shield with a Smart Carry holster and draw string shorts.

Because it shot so well with double taps, I considered making it my night stand gun. However, when I hold it and my 92FS, the feeling of the Beretta in my hand is still my favorite. And, it's so familiar. So, I'm not changing it. But, I will admit that I can do double taps with the Sig M11A1 better than any other gun.
