my rifle is finally complete. 6.5x47 lapua

sorry i don't have any pics, but my version of a buy once cry once rifle is finally done. my 3.5-15 premier heritage and seekins rings arrived this weekend! this scope on top of a lefty stiller tac30 6.5x47 lapua, manners t4, and badger ordnance m5 make a really nice combo.

couple weeks ago i took my 123 scenar load at 2915 fps out to 1050 yards. nothing like hitting paper sized steel on the second shot, from a hundred yard zero, at that range!

i will be setting up ukd steel targets the third week in july. that's where i think the heritage will really start to shine. can't wait!

maybe its time to buy a camera.

this is the rifle with old scope. falcon menace 10x mil/mil. sorry for the crap quality.

will try to take a decent photo in the field with the heritage.

BTW, how do you post pics. from your email??
From your email, save the pic to your desktop.

Then from the "Reply to thread" page, click the "manage attachments" button and select the picture(s) you want to upload, and they will appear as clickable thumbnails in your message. Or if you have a photo hosting site, you can upload them there.

If you want to get fancy, once a photo is uploaded somewhere on the 'net, you can put the URL in (img)(/img) tags (use brackets instead of parentheses) to display the image full-size in your message.

also. if anyone is looking for a quality rangefinder. the zeiss t-prf is awesome. i can't say enough good things about it. this rangefinder coupled with a good dope card equals a great day in the field.

next project will be building 5 or 6 swinging steel targets, and getting my range set up. i once thought that shooting at 1k was something mythical that took alot of skill, but now i realize making first round hits at unknown distance targets is the real challenge.

having said that. it sure is nice having stiller precision firearms as next door neighbors. i did pick up there new billet ar15 lower, just not sure what to do with it.

Any other 6.5 lovers around here? I know i won't be switching back to 308 any time soon. It simply doesn't stack up to the high bc 6.5's.

Took some pictures of the heritage.

Range report and scope review to follow.

weird... you need to get after the qc people - they put the bolt on the wrong side!

looks like a winner! enjoy your rifle!

very nice! i'm interested to hear what you think about that scope after you've used it a few months

I was able to hold sub moa at 1050. Shot at 10 inch group. That was with the 10x falcon and almost zero wind. So little wind that I only had a half mil of reticle hold off for windage. I don't consider that kind of group anything special, I was more impressed by the second round hit. Having a mil/mil scope makes it so easy to get that follow up shot on target. If I can get first round hits on ukd targets, thats were I will be really impressed.

As for the falcon. I had to send it back for warranty replacement. After about 400 rounds of 308 the reticle starting getting a bunch of black flakes on it. I am assuming the inside finish came off. Thank goodness I still had warranty. Falcon no longer makes that scope so they are shipping me a 4-14 mil/mil ffp. That scope will find a home on my ar15.

i am currently using an 8 twist shilen. 38 grains of varget pushing the 123 scenar to about 2915 fps. at 1050 yards this load required 9.4 mils of elevation from a 100 yard zero.

i have an 8.5 twist bartlein and some 130 jlk's on order. with a few pounds of reloader15, this should also be an awesome combination.

you can't go wrong with the 6.5x47 lapua. this is a really easy cartridge to load for, but as always start with a lower charge weight and work your way up.

also, take a look at Zak Smiths articles on the little lapua. it has been very helpful with my build.
