My Ruger LCP II...is it just me?

Oh okay I get it the Ruger lcp2 is designed for close-up self-defense but when I go to the target range I like to at least be able to hit the target paper! Even at only 7 yards I can't hit squat.
I painted the black front sight with glow orange.
I am nowhere near this bad with any of my other guns. Am I expecting too much from a close quarter firearm?

7 Yards, ok. Define size of target and group size. Post a picture if you can. I found I got better accuracy with my astigmatism by shooting with both eyes open and target focused. But the LCP is small, light, and a short sight radius. It will have limits, especially if the barrel and slide lockup tolerances are "generous".

Group? If there was a group I would not have posted.
10 circle target and I am not hitting at all from 7 yards. The front sight is painted the rear is not.
Could that be part of the problem?

Bring your target in until you can hold a group the size of a paper plate. If you can’t do that at any distance, you may have a mechanical issue with your gun. If you can do that, its probably an operator issue at greater distances.
I came here to post this. Bring it closer until they're going where you want them to go, and if they don't, send it back to ruger.

Maybe start at 7 feet and work your way out.

I can’t say I enjoy shooting my original LCP, but it’s more capable than that.

These are called belly guns for a reason.

They’re really only useable over card table distances.

Yes you are expecting too much from that little mousegun.

If you are shooting bullseye targets you will probably not be too successful, as the nubbin sights are not that great. But body-sized silhouettes should be no issue for an LCP if LCP II out to 10 yards or so.

A shot across my kitchen to the far side of my living room is about 45 feet, so being used at 10 yards is certainly not farfetched if your house is invaded and the LCP was what is handy at the time.

Stay safe.

I can put all shots onto the torso of an IDPA target with my LCP Max at out to 50 feet. Never measured the group size. But all shots on torso at 50 feet is ok with me for this type of gun.

Maybe I am expecting too much from my Lcp II with a bullseye target.
But the thing is with the same target my S&W M&P Bodyguard .380, I can group within 4 inches of the eye and it is a very similar gun in size and build to the Lcp II

I've had... I think three different LCP's and a P3AT. Eventually I could hit a paper plate with all of them virtually every time at seven yards. I'm a mediocre shot, but they do take practice. I've had to learn exactly how to hold them, exactly how to hold my trigger finger, etc. It takes some time and ammo and soreness to get decent with them.

Sounds like the OP may have gotten a lemon, if their Bodyguard shoots fine for them.

I have a pile of handguns and only one of them is a subcompact (Kahr CM9). I was shocked at how poorly I shot it initially. It took a bit of practicing with it to get to where I wasn't embarrassed by the results. And still, I can't shoot it anywhere near as well (or it doesn't shoot nearly as well...) as a full-sized pistol.

Keep at it. Have reasonable expectations. Practice.

it's kinda difficult to keep a ten ounce gun from wiggling in your hand when a five pound trigger pull is pushin. that gun will try to go side-to-side on ya every time. keep your eye on the front sight when you pull to see if the gun is wiggling. change the grip and/or the trigger finger placement to get the gun to stop wiggling.

luck,

murf

p.s. dry fire practice is a good way to see if the sights are gonna wiggle.

Why not just stick with the Bodyguard?
