I got my P228 back about a month ago, but I didn't have a digital camera until a few days ago. Posting pictures is easier than I thought.

Robar had my P228 for about 9 weeks, but in the end it was worth the wait. I had them NP3 everything Sig does on factory two tones, i.e.- the following remain black: rod guide, barrel, magazine release button backing plate, and frame.

This gun was only a few weeks old when I sent it to Robar, so I am finally getting some extended trigger time. While if I ever knew I was going to need a pistol, I'd grab my P226 ST, I am starting to believe the P228 is the finest all around pistol out there.

With return shipping it was around $175. I know it's not cheap, but I really like the NP3 and Robar is the only place that does it.

BTW, they're having a summer special, 20% off Roguard and NP3 till the end of August, see website for details.

I just sent a Walther P-5C off to them for a refinish job. I'm going with black Roguard for the slide and controls, silver NP3 on everything else. Im going to add a set of Nills grips when it comes home, I can hardly wait!

Shiping method?

How did u ship your sig?, our local fed-ex / ups place wont accept guns or gun parts for shipment. Anyone knoe what they could do on a glock except the slide?

Curious

Curious...

CDNN has P228s in the same finish for $369 with three magazines... described as "Very Good" condition, but the one I bought was as new.

You must have gotten a really good deal on the pistol to start with.

FWIW

Roguard over NP3 Springfield Armory Champion. The coolest thing about it is the ability to clean everything but the inside of the barrel by wiping it off with a dry cloth. Nothing sticks to the NP3.

CXM,
I was not aware CDNN offers NP3 plated Sigs. I've seen used ones for sale on their site with a nickel plated slide, but never one with an NP3 slide, controls, and internals.

Mine was a decent deal, I bought it NIB in March. The only complaints I've heard about P228's were rust related, and the NP3 treatment should eliminate that.

CDNN Investments

CDNN is out of Abilene, TX. They have a .pdf of the current catalog on the webpage that lists handguns, rifles, magazines, and most everything else you may need. CDNN seems to get a lot of trade-in items from police departments or elsewhere and also has "clearance" items.

I'm no lawyer, but FWIW this is what I've learned re shipping firearms thru my own studies & experience:

First, guns can only be shipped to an FFL holder. One exception - if you ship your gun to an FFL for repairs, he can return it directly to you. Be certain to get a copy of your ship-to FFL's licence, signed in red or blue ink, before you ship the gun, and verify that it's still valid (GunBroker.com has a link to do this. They're also a good source of shipping reg. info.)

Second, Fedex and UPS will both ship handguns, but only from their primary shipping points, not from satellite locations (drug stores, Kwik Copy, etc.) Both ship overnight air only (Fedex calls theirs "Fedex Priority Overnight"), and it's pricey. Figure about $40-45 one way, insured, for most handguns. Keep the package size as small as possible, consistent with good damage protection. If it's too big the price jumps drastically, even if the weight is low. Do not mark "Firearm" on the box, but their regulations require you to tell the clerk it's a handgun. I'd recommend you show the ship-to address in non-firearm terms to minimize the chances of theft. For example, if you're shipping to "XYZ Guns", just show "XYZ" as the addressee. Neither Fedex nor UPS lets you ship to a PO box. Get a street address.

And third, if you just want to ship parts, there are no restrictions. Only the frame counts as a "firearm", so you can ship slides & other parts any way you want, even Parcel Post. Long guns can go regular Fedex or UPS ground or even, if the shipping address is in the same state as the shipping point, USPS.

BTW - an FFL holder can ship a lot cheaper to another FFL. They can use USPS for about half the Fedex/UPS price. So you might want to consider that way if you've got a buddy who has an FFL.

Hope this helps.

Very true. I asked my FFL what he would charge to ship a handgun for me. He said he would charge $10 over what it would cost for USPS Priority, which would still be cheaper than me driving 30 minutes to UPS and paying $45 for me to ship to a FFL.

Anybody can legally ship a gun. You definitely do NOT have to be an FFL to ship. But only an FFL holder can receive one, except when it's being returned after repair.
