I was clearing brush on a fence line today and my six year old wanted to show me his hideout. He took me to a cozy little place in the middle of some thick honeysuckle and gave me a grand tour.
I was particularly proud when he showed me the weapons safe, which had a row of
sticks that looked like rifles and pistols. They had a door on the "safe" made out of sticks and twine. He said only he and his brother knew the buttons to the "safe" because not all kids know the safety rules for "guns." They wanted to make sure only kids that knew the safety rules could get a weapon.
It made me smile.
By the way....it is a lot easier for a six year old to crawl into the middle of a honeysuckle thicket than a rapidly aging dad!
