The recoil spring, at the front, caught a big ole hunk of skin at the base of my left pointer finger. I couldnt get <removed> loose and it hurt a bunch. A little pain is bad enough but being unable to get loose really bites. I was sure the hunk of finger skin was gonna get ripped off in freeing myself, but I got out after a minute or so with no injury but lots of relief. :cuss:

The most notable time a gun has attacked me was a Ruger MKIII when I tried to lock the bolt back, failed the first time and the extractor took a pinch of skin from me. Tried to lock it open after shooting it again later that day to have the same thing happen in the same exact spot.

So the recoil spring and guide rod failed so bad it came through between the slide and frame to grab you?

That has never happened with my lowly Sigma that has out shot all SR9's that it's met out to 100 yards with 124gn reloads or retail ammo.

I hope you recover from the Ruger assault.

I had a Sigma and it was a total piece of junk!

I am still trying to imagine how the recoil spring bit you. I am not questioning your veracity but just trying to determine how the spring (I assume a jagged edge at the spring's end?) got away from the guide rod and came through the slide and frame to snag your finger. Was this during firing or racking the slide or something else?

Post photos if you could, please. Thanks!

Can you post pics of your Sigma and targets in this thread too? It would make your post make even less sense.

Sounds to me like he was either field stripping it, or putting it back together.

Perhaps he had his hand on the slide when he put the recoil spring back in and it pinched it.

I should explain the circumstances of this action to spare others the same. I was holding the front of the gun with my left hand and was removing the slide. The slide did leave the frame, but the guide rod, under spring tension, pinched the whole area at the base of my first finger. I grabbed a screwdriver to try and relieve the pressure, didn't help. I could not push in on the end of the rod because the front of the same finger was blocking it. It wasn't spring pressure holding the finger, rather the guide rod that had snapped back into its hole in the slide, catching the skin. Anything I tried hurt worse. Don't do this !!!! ( sorry for the cussing earlier)

Haha. My Mk III attacks me every time I clean it. I have never known a firearm to be so full of razor-sharp edges that don't seem to go away, but only get sharper with time! :) I always end up with a few cuts I don't notice until solvent hits them. Yeeow!

That said - I STILL LOVE the thing. Super-durable, super-accurate, and super-reliable.
