The last few weeks or so I have been looking at getting a 9mm for carry for several reasons. First is I didn't have a 9mm and since I am a brass hoarder I figured I should get a 9mm to put my brass to good use. Second was that I wanted a physically smaller gun than the G20 I have been carrying, with summer coming up I don't want to have to wear clothes that don't fit just to make the 10mm disappear and found that it printed pretty bad even carrying appendix.

My requirements in no particular order were 1. The gun be small enough that I could carry the thing with minimal printing. 2. The gun be big enough that I can shoot it well. 3. The gun be built well that I can put untold thousands of round through the thing. 4. Reliable.

Now a little about me, that definitely influences my choices. I am 6'2" weighting in at 180lbs, wear a 32x34 jean even carrying AIWB, wear a 34" belt, and typically wear a medium or large t-shirt depending of my mood, but the larges are borderline too baggy. I kinda have big hands, I typically have to try on a bunch of gloves when buying gloves because most XL gloves are too small (all XL gloves fingers are too short) and I can't ever find XXL gloves. I don't like to wear baggy clothing, you won't catch me dead wearing a Hawaiian shirt or a bowling shirt or anything with long sleeves(monkey arms). So, it is pretty much polos and t-shirts for me and the occasional button up.

I was in the local gun shop this weekend looking at the amazingly small assortment of pistols, because this is small town MT there isn't much selection. I looked at the LC9, M&P shield and Beretta Nano. Now all of these guns were absolutely TINY and fit the concealment criteria, but I had a hard time holding onto the things which led me to believe that I probably wouldn't have a desire to go out and shoot them much. I also worried about how long these little guns would last. The guy at the gunshop then directed me to a G19Gen 4 and when I picked it up all I could think was WOW.

Handling the thing. The gun is small, I had on me a appendix holster I used for my G22 before local law enforcement took it from me and is holding it as evidence, but I put the 19 in the holster and the gun completely disappeared with very minimal printing. Now I am used to carrying the G20 because it fits my hands well, so when I held the thing, all I could think was SMALL and THIN.
I have handled the smaller Glocks before but maybe it is from being used to the big Glocks and not seeing my G22 in over 4 months, but I don't remember them being that small or thin.

Since I have had good luck with Glocks, I went for it. Both my G22 and G20 have performed flawlessly and I figured that the 19 would be the same. Took the thing to the range Sunday and ran 200 rounds through it without a hiccup. The hardest thing to get used to is how thin the gun is, I know not everyone agrees with me on this but everybody has a different perspective. Will be ordering a new holster for it this week.

I really like the thing, I can shoot it well, conceal it well, and if Glock's reputation holds I will have many years ahead with it. I really like the large beavertail backstrap, without it I get slide bite, I do with the large backstrap added a little more length to the trigger reach, but it is just something I will have to live with.

Overall I am pleased with my purchase so far.

Thanks for the range report and congrats on the new Glock. Some experts say that the G19 is the perfect carry gun. I personally prefer the larger G17 but it is less concealable.

So, we're all wondering the same thing... Wanna talk about why they took your G22?

I made a mistake and married a crazy woman, thankfully divorced now. In short, she woke up in the middle of the night, told me she was gonna kill me grabbed the handgun and started shooting at me. Cops found me running down the street in my under britches. Ended up with glass in my leg but all the bullets missed me. Sometimes the best thing to do is RUN!! She took a plea deal and plead to criminal endangerment with a 5 year suspended sentence. Sentencing is in April, and I will be able to get the G22 back then.

I can agree with you on the 19 looking thin. I've been carring my 30sf for winter (like .45 just in case the JHP gets clogged with all the clothing), but with it getting warmer swiched back to the 19 and boy was I shocked when I picked it up!
Glad you like your new pistol.

had a glock 30,sold it cause my pants kept falling down because of the weight
You still carrying .45APC? Have you found anything lighter?

How about a better belt, one with hard plastic reinforcement sewn in-between the leather?

Perfect carry gun or not it is the perfect size IMO. My hand touches nothing but grip with nothing to spare and it's plenty accurate. Like that the barrel is 4" at least. Heck if it was 4.5" Id be more tickled. Just bought a barrel for the G 22 though.

Congrats.

I am loving the pistol, will still be carrying the G20 from time to time, saw a mountain lion this morning when I was headed to the gas station and we had a bear in the back yard last summer. Hazard of living in MT is that you don't have to get outside of town to have 4 legged threats.

Given what you already have I would get G29 plus .40 barrel if you want less expensive ammo to practice with. The size is similar to G19 and you can use G20 magazine as a spare.

You read my mind.

I disliked Glocks for about two and a half decades. Then I bought one about a year ago. I still try to dislike them, but it gets tougher every day. The G19 is, as a whole, a very good combination of caliber, capacity, size, etc., IMHO.

Enjoy it!

Could have, but then my 1/2 full 5 gallon bucket of 9mm brass would still not have a use. Amazing what picking up a handful of 9mm brass every range trip adds up to.

G19 thin?

I suppose next to a 2x4...

If you have "average" hands you may not perceive it as thin, but enough folks complained about the G20 &G21 grip that they made the SF version, I thought that the original grip size was about right. Remember some people think a size 12 boot is huge and others cant get their foot in one.

No perceptions of it being thicker than 45acp 1911's.

And my first cell phone wasn't as big as my smartphone, but I still upgraded.

You got jokes. I own both, but have only carried a 19 once in a Sparks IWB, as it was too thick. I liked the lightness but not worth the trade off in thickness. CCW is all about trade offs and that was not one I was going to live with...

I didn't mind the thickness of my G20 actually like it for shooting, just wanted something smaller as the grip tends to print when I just wear a t shirt, the 19 disappears even when wearing a snug t shirt. The 1911 doesn't hold 15 rnds in a flush fit magazine, have fired a double stack 1911 and the one I shot was a jam-o-matic and don't trust them as much as I trust my ex. Have a 1911, just won't carry it.
