Hey all!

I just bought and received my first rifle and I just wanted to share my giddy mood with everyone!!! I bought a 7.62X39MM Saiga Rifle ... brand new in the box made in Russia! Have yet to fire it ... going to the range this weekend with a buddy who wants to fire it too so I'm gonna wait and share the fun! :)

If anyone who owns a Saiga would like to voice any suggestions or opinions ... on anything ... cleaning, breakdown, brand of ammo ... anything I'd love to hear it! Always nice to get some info and feedback on a new firearm!!!

--- Just keep in mind if you make a suggestion about add-ons I live in a real P.I.T.A. state ... NJ:banghead: ... nothing super fun allowed! :fire:

THANKS!

That's one heck of a rifle to be the first in your collection! I estimate that here in a decade or two, you'll have an evil arsenal that'll scare the pants off any politician.

Good choice!

oooh a saiga! convert it and make it look cool :p saiga forums can help you. Wolf ammo is good, dirty in the gas piston and that gun will eat it up.

Great choice IMHO

I have 3 AR-15' a mini 14, a mini 30 and a Saiga, along with a whole bunch of Bolt Actions and lever guns. I think that my Saiga is a great, dependable and rugged gun. Buying high mags is pretty hard on the walllet but in NJ I doubt you can own them anyway.

Yep, you done good, can't go wrong with a Saiga. Now, don't waste anytime getting a case of ammo. It's about as cheap as it's likely to get, and plentiful.
This won't always be the case.
Places like Aimsurplus and Copes distributing are good places to start looking.
Any of the Russian steel cased ammo will treat you right, but there's still a few variables. All the Bear ammo's are great, but silver bear's zinc coating will quickly rust if exposed to moisture. Wolf works well according to most ( always has for me) but is supposedly dirty and under-powered compared to some others.
Golden Tiger is around again, and this was hugely popular and considered very good stuff ( I concur).
Anyway, don't put off getting some.

Very nice! Its an AK at heart so don't worry to much about the ammo it will eat anything!:D

Awesome rifle, but...

...not to be a d*ck, but your mag isn't seated all the way. Make sure to lock the front tab in first, then rock the mag backwards. Get to shootin'!

Good choice on a first rifle NJGun.... I like your style, most people just get regular old .22lr ;)

Have fun

No you cannot put a high cap mag into a Saiga unless it is converted. Firrst it won't fit, you need to gring out the mag well. Second, it's against 922r compliance laws so it's illegal.

OP, great rifle, I have the same one as you. I've had it for about 2 months now and I'm getting 4in groups at 100yards with Wolf Black Box and Military Classic. I just picked up another brand, can'' remember what though... and I'm going to burn it up this weekend so I'll let you know how it shoots.

Have fun, be safe and enjoy!

Tula, Wolf and Brown Bear ammo will work fine. Avoid Silver Bear; it has some weird zinc gunk on it that gets everywhere and is annoying.

I like Wolf Military Classic as a general range/practice ammo.

Obviously, you should use better ammo for defense, but Wolf will work if that's all you have.

Right before the last presidential election and everyone was freaking out about Gun Law changes, prices went through the roof. My best friend from high school probably paid $450+ for his Saiga AK, he's a Dentist so even at the price he could still afford it but he sure gripes at today prices but he has various other AK's variants in his collection.

Good to have a best friend from high school, we're both 57 years old so that's about 41 years we have been friends. He's given me a MAK90 and a Remington 870 Police Issue.
