Okay. So I’ve followed with some amusement this “debate” that says you have to be a devotee of either Glock or Springfield’s XD series.
Well, today I added a full size XD-45 Tactical to my stable, and I went out to the range today and fired her. 150 rounds with stone cold reliability right out of the box. I’ve been wanting another .45 ever since I got rid of my atrocious Kimber Custom II. So I went down to the gun shop today and decided to look at the G21 and XD-45 side by side. Well, the XD was a centimeter or so slimmer, has better mag capacity, and was about $25 cheaper. Well, that was reason enough to go with the XD.

That said, I still LOVE my G17! 2000 rounds through her in the last 8 months and nary a malfunction to be had. Not ONE. I’ll never part with this one. The XD still has many trouble free rounds to go before it proves itself as reliable as my Glock, and we’ll see if it’s up to the task.
The G17 was a true innovation and started this whole world of affordable, reliable, easy to maintain high capacity handguns. The G21 seemed to me like an afterthought to sate the American thirst for a 45.
The XD-45 is a true innovation in that it seems to meld the things I like best about the 1911 with the things I like best about Glocks, and simply does the 45 better than Glock.
I find it amusing that a discriminating gun buyer should be forced to chose one or the other. I’ve got BOTH.
